Research Intern - Machine Learning, Statistics, and AutoML
Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers. Our researchers and engineers pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. The Machine Learning and Statistics and AutoML groups at Microsoft Research New England are hiring multiple interns to work alongside leading researchers and engineers to advance the state-of-the-art in the field. Projects include applied and theoretical machine learning research on topics including (but not limited to): auto-ML, transfer learning, domain adaptation, program synthesis, meta-learning, sign language modeling, statistics, approximate inference, distribution compression, weather and climate forecasting, causal inference, causal machine learning, ML for health, adversarial ML, learning and incentives, reinforcement learning, multi-agent reinforcement learning, deep learning, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning. Responsibilities: Interns put inquiry and theory into practice.

New AI Technique Builds Dynamic Images From a Single Photo
A dynamic image has a "wow" factor that defines spacial relationships and can express much more than a still photo. Creating such a moving photo however can involve taking multiple pictures from different points of view followed by a lot of manual editing work. A new Adobe-developed AI tool significantly lowers the threshold for producing dynamic images with a framework that synthesizes a "3D Ken Burns effect" from a single image. It supports both a fully automatic mode and an interactive mode with the user controlling the camera. Researchers introduce the technique in the paper 3D Ken Burns Effect from a Single Image.

Research Intern (Google)
About The Job Research happens across Google everyday, in many different teams. Our research has already impacted user-facing services across Google including Search, Maps and Google Now, and is central to the success of Google Cloud and our planet-scale computing, storage, and networking infrastructure. We do research differently here. Research Interns aren't cloistered in the lab, but instead they work closely with Software Engineers to discover, invent, and build at the largest scale. Ideas may come from internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

AI for Education: Individualized Code Feedback for Thousands of Students
This post is authored by Matthew Calder, Senior Business Strategy Manager, and Ke Wang, Research Intern at Microsoft. There are more than 9,000 students enrolled in the Microsoft Introduction to C# course on edX.org. Although course staff can't offer the type of guidance available in an on-campus classroom setting, students can receive personalized help, thanks to a project from Microsoft Research. When a student's assignment contains mistakes, that student--within seconds--receives a message specific to their code submission. Beyond just informing the student that their program doesn't work, Microsoft has created a tool which automatically generates feedback that precisely identifies errors and even hints at how to correct them.
