US walks back claim it killed major al Qaeda leader in drone strike
Apogee Strong co-founder Tim Kennedy joined'Fox & Friends Weekend' to discuss the U.S. response and the importance of fatherhood in America. U.S. military officials are walking back a claim that a senior al Qaeda leader was killed in a recent drone strike in Syria, a senior U.S. defense official confirmed to Fox News. The story was first reported by the Washington Post. The family of 56-year-old Lotfi Hassan Misto identified him as the person killed by the American missile on May 3, according to the Post. U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, oversaw the operation and released a statement on the day of the strike saying it conducted a strike "targeting a senior Al Qaeda leader."

Who is Ayman Al Zawahiri? Al Qaeda leader killed in Afghanistan
Ayman Al Zawahiri, the terrorist killed in a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan Monday, was a top deputy to al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden before taking the helm of the organization after his predecessor's death in 2011. A drone strike on a Kabul home took him out over the weekend, Fox News reported earlier. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed and condemned the attack on Twitter, calling it "a clear violation of international principles," according to a translation of the thread. However, the 2020 Doha Agreement, which preceded the Biden administration's highly criticized withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan last year, called for the Taliban to combat terrorism within the country. Al Zawahiri was also a doctor and founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad terror group, which later merged with al-Qaeda, according to authorities.

Al Qaeda leader killed by drone strike in Libya identified by Pentagon
Military officials say no civilians appear to be injured in the strike. A U.S. drone strike killed a "high ranking" official in the Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb terror cell in Libya on Saturday, the Pentagon disclosed Wednesday. Musa Abu Dawud was one of two AQIM terrorists killed in the airstrike in southwest Libya near the city of Ubari in the Sahara desert. "Dawud trained AQIM recruits in Libya for attack operations in the region. He provided critical logistics support, funding and weapons to AQIM, enabling the terrorist group to threaten and attack U.S. and Western interests in the region," U.S. military's Africa Command said in a statement.

Is The US Going To War In Africa? Trump Reacts To Islamic Terror By Al Qaeda, Al-Shabab In Somalia
President Donald Trump has ordered the U.S. military to step up in its fight against Islamic terror groups in Africa after various Al Qaeda offshoot groups have increased their militant actions in the massive continent, according to multiple reports. Somalia was named in Trump's executive order on immigration that banned travel to the U.S. from seven Muslim-majority countries. Adding a metaphorical insult to injury, three Islamic militant groups based in Mali have reportedly pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda this week, bolstering Al Qaeda's growing grip on Africa. While the U.S. government had not immediately addressed the reports of the Al Qaeda merger of sorts, experts in global conflict told the Associated Press that steps were already being taken to quell Al-Shabab's activities in the East African nation of Somalia. "The concern in Washington has been mounting for some time now," Rashid Abdi, an analyst with the International Crisis Grou "The Trump administration is simply reiterating what has been policy, with slight variations. U.S. special forces are already on the ground. Drone attacks have been scaled up."

Donald Trump Called 'White House's New Fool' By Al Qaeda Leader Over US Raid In Yemen
The leader of al-Qaida in the Arabain Peninsula (AQAP), Qassim al-Rimi, released an audio recording in which he reportedly called President Donald Trump the "White House's new fool" while speaking about a recent deadly U.S. raid against the group in Yemen which killed 25 civilians, including 11 women and children. In the recording, which was released late Saturday, al-Rimi addressed his followers, saying: "The White House's new fool has received a painful blow at your hands in his first outing on your land." The raid took place Jan. 29 and the recording claimed many U.S. soldiers were also killed and wounded during the operation. It was President Trump's first counter-terrorism offensive that killed more than a dozen terrorists and also U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William Ryan Owens. The casualties included the 8-year old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki, the Yemeni-American al-Qaida leader who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2011.

US airstrike in Syria kills Al Qaeda leader linked to bin Laden, Pentagon reports
The Pentagon says a U.S. airstrike in Syria this month killed what the Defense Department describes as a senior Al Qaeda leader who once had ties to Usama bin Laden. Jeff Davis, identified the target as Haydar Kirkan. The spokesman says Kirkan oversaw the planning of attacks against Western targets outside of Syria, including in Turkey. Brett McGurk, the president's special envoy in the fight against the Islamic State terror group, called Haydar a "legacy Al Qaeda terrorist and external plotter," in a tweet. Davis said a U.S. drone carried out the airstrike Oct. 17 in the vicinity of Idlib, in western Syria.
