Meta Is Shutting Down Horizon Worlds on Meta Quest
Meta's flailing virtual reality social experience is being discontinued in June. It's part of Meta's broader moves to slim down the business that became its namesake. Pour one out from your digital bottle, because Meta is shutting down the virtual reality experience of Horizon Worlds. Meta sent an email blast to Horizon Worlds users today stating that the social VR world will officially end on its Quest VR headsets; starting March 31, Horizon Worlds will no longer be in the Quest store. Some Horizon-specific perks, including Meta Credits, avatars, and some digital clothes and in-world purchases, will also be removed.

After the rise (and fall) of reservation scalping, DoorDash and a host of apps are fighting to book you a seat at the country's most exclusive restaurants. At The Eighty-Six in Manhattan, exclusivity is the point. The luxe, 11-table steakhouse is the sort of place that lavishes caviar and aged mimolette cheese on its potatoes, and crows that your market-price duck was raised by one Dr. Taylor Swift has reportedly dined there in a Miu Miu skirt. Reservations are a scarce commodity that the restaurant, and New York law forbids you from selling one. "Access is the main asset," wrote food writer Helen Rosner in a recent New Yorker review of The Eighty-Six. "The product is the door, and what a door!

These Musical Instruments of the Future Sound Weird, Wacky--and Are Easy for Anyone to Play
A bicycle wheel with guitar strings, a touch-operated synth, and the "Demon Box" were just a few of the new instruments on show at Georgia Tech's Guthman Musical Instrument Competition this weekend. An open-source, touch-operated synth built to resemble a puzzle piece and keep accessibility at the forefront. A pressure-sensitive surface allows for polyphonic synthesis that can be triggered by hands, feet, textured fabrics, or even Play-Doh. Brand new sounds floated through a concert hall at Georgia Tech this weekend, as the 28th annual Guthman Musical Instrument Competition showcased an array of new instruments from around the world--and crowned one champion. Ten finalists, chosen from candidates who built all kinds of new music-making devices, converged in Atlanta, Georgia, to present their instruments to a panel of judges.

Meet Scotland's Whisky-Sniffing Robot Dog
Inside Dewar's cavernous whisky warehouses, man's best mechanical friend--a Boston Dynamics robot dog with an ethanol sensor for a nose--is on the hunt for leaky barrels. Wooden barrels are what make the magic happen in your favorite bottle of whisky . At Bacardi Limited, the world's largest privately held spirits company, barrel leakage is a massive headache. Consider the company's Dewar's blended Scotch whisky brand (just one of the dozens it owns). Most of the time, Dewar's will have over 100 warehouses full of aging barrels of whisky, 25,000 casks in each one.
