The Product Hunt Pre-Launch Scaries

#artificialintelligence

Okay! Chances are that we are prepping for Personal.ai's Product Hunt launch as you are reading this. While I've seen plenty of blogs publish their experiences following their launch, I wanted to share our preparation and the crazy days counting down to our big launch date. While I have built startups before, I have yet to experience launching a product on Product Hunt. Admittedly I'm very nervous, but among all of the firsts I've experienced in the startup world, one process has helped the team stay consistent: Learn, Learn, and Act.

A service that uses AI to identify gender based on names looks incredibly biased

#artificialintelligence

Some tech companies make a splash when they launch, others seem to bellyflop. Genderify, a new service that promised to identify someone's gender by analyzing their name, email address, or username with the help AI, looks firmly to be in the latter camp. The company launched on Product Hunt last week, but picked up a lot of attention on social media as users discovered biases and inaccuracies in its algorithms. Type the name "Meghan Smith" into Genderify, for example, and the service offers the assessment: "Male: 39.60%, Female: 60.40%." Other names prefixed with "Dr" produce similar results while inputs seem to generally skew male. "Test@test.com" is said to be 96.90 percent male, for example, while "Mrs Joan smith" is 94.10 percent male.

A Startup Takes 'Investing in People' Literally. Not Everyone Approves

WIRED

On Human IPO, a marketplace for investing in people, Tristan Pollock is currently trading at $180--up 20 percent from his debut price. "I'm looking at my dashboard now, and it looks like 12 people have bought time with me so far," he says. "One has almost 30 percent." Pollock, a startup investor, "went public" on Human IPO earlier this month. The platform lets people sell up to 500 hours of their time on the open market, at one hour per "share," at a price of their choosing.

Texano - Web app to anonymize textual data with machine learning Product Hunt

#artificialintelligence

Everyone, here is Anwar from Texano! This is my first product here and it's side-hustle, I have a 9 to 6 (yes not 5!) job in Frankfurt, Germany and after driving home and spending time with my lovely wife, I usually work stay up till late night or stay up early to code. And Texano is the fruit of doing that for 1-1/2 Months. Texano is a web app to detect and anonymize any kind of text. In the company I work with, clients data should be treated like diamonds (mainly because of GDPR) the company has also several partners for accomplishing additional tasks, so they have to receive clients data as well, so every time data is transfered to them, all confidential data should be anonymized.

Makerlog Assistant - Keep track of your tasks right from your Google Assistant! Product Hunt

#artificialintelligence

Sorry if it wasn't that clear before, I'll just re-iterate it again: The Makerlog Assistant is in "pre-launch" (you can see the grey dot by the name), and is launching tomorrow (the 6th of January). I have no control over this, as Google has to review the action first, and they're doing so as I'm writing this! Makerlog has arrived on Google Assistant!!! Keep track of your tasks right from your Google Assistant, whether your in the living room, in the kitchen, on your phone or in your car - no installation is needed. Get started with the Makerlog Assistant now, just by saying "Ok Google, talk to Makerlog". A one-time login process is necessary to link your Makerlog account, but after that logging tasks is easy from your phone, Google Home, TV, car, or any other Google Assistant-enabled device!
