Camera Deal: DJI's Osmo Action Is $100 Off Right Now

WIRED

GoPro's Hero lineup is the most recognizable action camera on the market, but drone-maker DJI has the Osmo Action, a compelling alternative especially when it's $100 off like it is right now. The Osmo Action (8/10, WIRED Recommends) has some tricks GoPro cameras lack, like a wonderfully bright color front screen that makes it much easier to reliably get yourself in the shot. Right now, you can buy the DJI Osmo Action at the lowest prices we've seen, Amazon ($249), Best Buy ($249), B&H Photo ($249), and Adorama ($249). If you want to go the opposite direction artistically and capture some buttery smooth handheld 4K video, the DJI Osmo Pocket Gimbal (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is also on sale. You can grab the pocketable, gimbal-mounted camera for $294 at Amazon, or for $299 at Adorama, Best Buy, and B&HPhoto (back ordered).

The best deals we found this week: 16-inch MacBook Pro, Fitbit and more

Engadget

This week, anyone looking for a deal on an Apple laptop or Amazon's Echo devices should check this roundup out. Both the 16-inch MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air are on sale -- not quite as cheap as they were earlier in the week, but still two good deals. On Amazon's side, the Echo Show remains available for $80 (its lowest price ever) and both models of the Echo Show can be had at significant discounts, as well. A number of Fitbit devices are on sale as part of a summer promotion. One of the best deals is the Fitbit Inspire HR for $70, or $30 off its normal price.

First look: DJI's GoPro killer, Osmo Action leaves GoPro with no worries

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

DJI is treading on GoPro's turf with their new Osmo Action camera featuring their "rock steady" stabilization. How does it compare with the Hero 7? Robert Hanashiro, USA TODAY And it acts like it as well, with a caveat: The company that makes it, Chinese drone-maker DJI, says video footage on its Osmo Action camera is smoother than on the GoPro. We tried the camera in a back-to-back shootout with the GoPro Hero 7 Black, and the "RockSteady" footage isn't steadier and is, in fact, barely as smooth as the GoPro. But it is less wild and saturated, meaning that if you use an action camera to shoot footage of human beings, as opposed to surfing, cycling, hiking and the like, your subjects are going to look better. My guess is, though, that you want the camera for action, not portraits.
