Garmin Forerunner 970 review: the new benchmark for running watches
Garmin's new top running watch, the Forerunner 970, has very big shoes to fill as it attempts to replace one of the best training and race companions available. Can a built-in torch, a software revamp and voice control really make a difference? The Guardian's journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. The new top-of-the-line Forerunner takes the body of the outgoing Forerunner 965 and squeezes in a much brighter display, useful new running analytics and more of the advanced tech from Garmin's flagship adventure watch the Fenix 8. These upgrades come at a steep cost of 630 ( 750/ 750/A 1,399) – 30 more than its predecessor – placing it right at the top of the running and triathlon watch pile, although less than the 780 Fenix 8.

Garmin Fenix 8 review: best adventure watch becomes smarter
The Fenix 8 is a landmark moment for Garmin. By adding voice control, an OLED screen and other niceties, it has merged its top Fenix and Epix adventure watch lines to better compete with increasingly advanced smartwatches from Apple, Samsung and other major players. The Guardian's journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. The Fenix has always been where Garmin debuts its technology and features first before trickling them down into other products, such as the popular Forerunner series.

ASUS introduces six new Copilot PC laptops
ASUS unveiled a large collection of new Copilot PC laptops at IFA 2024, bringing AI power to several of its product lines. The company is splitting this portfolio into two branches, each powered by a different brand's processors. Some of them will have the entry-level Snapdragon X Plus from Qualcomm and others will run on the codenamed Lunar Lake models from Intel, including the new Core Ultra 200V. The Zenbook S14 is the lightweight option at 2.7 pounds and less than half an inch thick. The 14-inch machine runs on an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor that can provide up to 47 TOPS in its neural processing unit (NPU) for AI performance. Its screen is a 3K 120Hz OLED display.

Surface Pro 11 review: Microsoft's big Arm leap almost pays off
Microsoft's latest Surface tablet promises to be a generational upgrade that goes beyond just being faster, quieter and more efficient – all down to a change in the type of processor at its heart. The Guardian's journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. The Surface Pro 11 is not the first Microsoft machine to swap traditional Intel or AMD PC processors for Arm-based chips, similar to those in your smartphone or Apple's recent Macs and iPads. But it is by far the most successful, leaving even recent editions such as the 2020 Surface Pro X and last year's Surface Pro 9 5G in the dust.

Above the fold? Our hands-on review with the world's first 2,500 folding laptop - as computer makers jump on the trend
Computer makers are taking a page from smartphone developers by releasing foldable laptops. Few laptops genuinely turn heads in our tech-saturated age, but I could see people in my local café trying to figure out what on Earth I was using. Clearly a fair amount of the appeal of the Thinkpad X1 Fold is pose value: as I clipped and unclipped the pen and unfolded the huge bendy screen, I felt like I was in a science fiction movie. With a huge screen standing up vertically from the keyboard, folded in the middle, Lenovo's Thinkpad X1 Fold is definitely not'just another laptop' - and it's just one of a wave of bendy-screen laptops going on sale in coming months. The Thinkpad X1 Fold is an upgraded version of Lenovo's folding PC (the world's first), and is now armed with a huge 16.3-inch OLED screen.

Lenovo's stunning new Yoga laptop packs in two OLED screens
Lenovo's Yoga line has always been able to twist itself into different forms, but the newest addition announced at CES 2024 puts a unique spin on it--you get two displays joined by a hinge in the Book 9i. But while this laptop looks as if it's the Microsoft Surface Duo reborn, you can do a heck of a lot more with it. When paired with its detachable keyboard and cover, you can bend the Yoga Book 9i not just into a traditional clamshell form, but dual landscape or dual portrait mode, a tented set of displays, and side-by-side screens. And, most importantly, it's not hampered by a mobile operating system: It runs Windows 11. Looking to pick up a brand new laptop?

9 Upgrades We'd Love to See in the Next Nintendo Switch
SINCE ITS RELEASE in 2017, the Nintendo Switch console has become the company's second-best-selling home console of all time, trailing only the Wii. Nintendo is known for releasing upgraded consoles every three to five years, and while speculation around a new Switch has been brewing since 2019, a March Bloomberg report sparked more intense conversation. Changes for the as yet unconfirmed "Switch Pro" include revamped hardware, a larger handheld display, Joy-Con changes, and more. While no official plans for a new console have been announced, here are some upgrades we'd love to see. One of the Switch's biggest strengths is its ability to function as a handheld device.

Our top five new smartphones
Huawei's latest phone is something rather special. The Mate 20 Pro packs more cutting-edge technology into it than any other, but unlike most bleeding-edge devices it makes for a great experience. It looks like an iPhone XS mated with a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, with a huge curved 6.39in OLED display and big notch in the top. The screen is great and hides a good pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner. The curved sides and narrow width makes the massive screen manageable.
