Prudential Singapore is offering a free machine learning (ML) course for its 1,200 employees in Singapore, according to a report on Singapore broadsheet The Straits Times. Called "Machine Learning for Humans", the 30-hour course is developed together with Ngee Ann Polytechnic. With training by data scientists from both the public and private sectors, the online course offers assessments are offered for participants to apply what they have learned. It is understood that more than 170 employees have signed up so far. A foundational course called "AI in Finance" offered last year was taken by over 200 employees from Prudential.

All 1,200 employees of insurer Prudential Singapore will be able to learn how to better use data in their daily work through a new online certification programme. Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on developing computer programmes that can learn from new data so as to perform tasks without needing explicit instructions from humans. Participants will be trained by data scientists from the public and private sectors, and will take scenario-based assessments to show that they can apply what they have learnt. The 30-hour course is called Machine Learning for Humans and follows a foundational course called AI in Finance, which was taken by over 200 Prudential staff last year.

Through this course, both NP and CFTE hope to support and to nurture talent in Fintech and to boost Fintech development in their respective regions and around the world. The course is accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore and is in the process of obtaining accreditation with The Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore. It aims to update finance professionals and technologists on the AI revolution and create an online community of learners and experts in AI to connect and network for future collaborations.
