New heroes of spaceflight: Not the astronauts but the software nerds
A revolution in satellite technology has produced spacecraft that are smaller and more capable, capsules that fly themselves and autonomous rockets that reach space, make a U-turn and execute pinpoint landings so they can fly again. While ground engineers and computer experts have always played an important role in spaceflight, today their role is even more pronounced as software changes are beamed to spacecraft as routinely as iPhone updates.
Tech Fanboys Have a New Hero
Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos have each taken a turn as technology's alpha dog, but none of them can claim that title now. Musk has become a polarizing figure, drained of all mystique. Zuckerberg sold us on a social-media dream that turned out to be a nightmare. Bezos self-ejected from the CEO chair at Amazon, so he could make rockets and frolic on his yacht with his fiancรฉe. At the top of the tech world, a vacancy now looms like a missing tooth.
Overwatch 2 review: Batten down the hatches for sizzling battles galore
Editor's note: Ryan Smith is a graduate of East Carolina University and has been an avid gamer since the early and mid 90's. Other favorites include BioWare and Bethesda RPGs, Dark souls, Total War titles and various MMORPG's and Shooters. RALEIGH โ Amid a sea of controversies over the last few years, Blizzard Entertainment (a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard) has also seen a massive player count drop in their pillar title World of Warcraft. Their RTS(real time strategy) titles, formerly among their best and most popular, are either relics of their former selves in the case of StarCraft 2, or abysmally received upon launch such as the case with Warcraft 3: Reforged, now infamously one of the worst reviewed games of all time. However, they did enter the world of First Person Shooters for the first time in 2016 with a massively popular title known as Overwatch.
'Overwatch 2' to go free-to-play, with three to four new heroes per year
In a broadcast on Thursday, the team behind "Overwatch 2" revealed the game will operate around nine-week seasons. Starting on Oct. 4, the sequel will have three new heroes, six new maps and the new game mode, Push. At the start of every season, Blizzard will release another hero, map or game mode as a free update to the game. The three heroes coming in October will include Sojourn, who was first announced this spring, Junker Queen, an Australian hero Blizzard unveiled on Sunday, and an unnamed support hero.
'Overwatch's' new hero is a badass robot centaur
Blizzard has unveiled the 24th addition to its popular online shooter Overwatch, and no it's not Doomfist (Sorry, Terry Crews!). Overwatch's new hero is Orisa, a four-legged robot built by an 11-year-old engineering prodigy to protect the people of Numbani, and she looks pretty badass. Her kit includes a rapid-fire Fusion Driver -- a gun that sacrifices movement speed for good range and accuracy; a graviton charge that slows and attracts nearby enemies; a Fortify ability that reduces damage and makes her unstoppable for a short time; and a stationary Protective Barrier that shields allies. Plus, she has an ultimate ability, Supercharger, that increases the damage dealt by her entire team. In a developer update, game director Jeff Kaplan says the team wanted to create a character similar to the hammer-and shield-wielding Reinhardt.
'Battleborn' Bootcamp Trailer Prepares Players For Open Beta, Now Ready To Download
Between the 25 heroes at launch, the five factions, three competitive modes, and nine story episodes, players that pick up Battleborn should have plenty to accomplish. While teaming up with up to five players, Battleborn heroes work to earn loot, level up through three types of progression, and save the last star from slipping into the void. It is no secret that Battleborn players will be able to take up arms against each other in the game's competitive modes; Incursion, Meltdown, and Capture. However, Battleborn also offers co-operative players a chance to do their part. Nine story missions, and another five post-launch, are infinitely repeatable for loot, experience, and accolades.
