All the buzz about NASA's new fleet of space bees

#artificialintelligence

Robot bees are no replacement for our vital pollinators here on Earth. Up on the International Space Station, however, robots bearing the bee name could help spacefaring humans save precious time. On Friday, NASA astronaut Anne McClain took one of the trio of Astrobees out for a spin. Bumble and its companion Honey both arrived on the ISS a month ago, and are currently going through a series of checks. Bumble passed the first hurdle when McClain manually flew it around the Japanese Experiment Module.

The future of USPS trucks is electric: The new fleet will replace, expand more than 230K vehicles

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

The U.S. Postal Service will finally get new high-tech mail delivery trucks. The agency said Tuesday that it awarded a 10-year multi-billion dollar contract to Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Defense to replace it's aging fleet of vehicles. The new fleet will replace and expand the existing more than 230,000 vehicles – among them approximately 190,000 delivery trucks – including many that have been in service for 30 years. The deal calls for the postal service to order between 50,000 to 165,000 new delivery trucks featuring 360-degree cameras, advanced braking, with front- and rear-collision avoidance system that includes visual, audio warning and automatic braking. Army maps plans for future tank

Fox News Flash top headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. Racing over bridges, supporting advancing infantry with suppressive fire, shooting vehicle-launched counter-drone missiles and engaging enemy tanks from safe standoff ranges are all operations the Army anticipates for its new fleet of armored combat vehicles. A decided emphasis for the Army's family of Next Generation Combat Vehicles is speed, maneuverability and expeditionary warfare, all key components of the service's effort to bring supportive fires to advancing infantry, cross bridges, engage in mechanized maneuver warfare and leverage a new generation of sensor technology and drone coordination. The NGCV effort consists of an interesting mixture of new platforms, to include the fast-emerging Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle infantry carrier, Robotic Combat Vehicle and some kind of future tank-like platform.

Lexus releases new concept for a zero-D lunar speeder bike and a new fleet of space-age SUVs

Daily Mail - Science & tech

This month, the European Advances Studio for Toyota and Lexus revealed seven new designs offering a glimpse at what the luxury car manufacturer's products might look if there was a commercial market for space vehicles. The designs were part of a new issue of Document Journal, which commissioned ten designers to create a'Lunar Portfolio,' imagining what life would be like on the moon. The featured design is called'Zero Gravity,' a single-rider style vehicle that uses a speculative magnetic levitation technology to power the vehicle as it speeds along just above the surface of the moon. 'The design reinterprets the signature Lexus spindle grille and uses the motorcycle-style of driving to employ the new concept of Tazuna (which mean "reins" in Japanese): the fundamental human-centered philosophy,' Lexus explained in a statement released alongside the new portfolio of designs. 'Inspired by how a single rein can be used to achieve mutual understanding between horse and rider, the steering control provides active driving enjoyment created by the direct communication between human and machine.'

Friendly nurse or nightmare-inducing machine? How culture programs our taste in robots.

Washington Post - Technology News

Slowly and silently, they glide across the floor wearing bright yellow dresses that look like they were plucked from a haunted 1920s boarding school. No, you haven't encountered some Mothman-like terror entombed inside a department store mannequin, the byproduct of a twisted, futuristic fever dream. You've merely stepped inside Mongkutwattana General Hospital in Bangkok, where a team of robot nurses has been unleashed to make life easier. Their job: ferrying documents between eight stations inside the health-care facility, a job that used to be carried out busy human nurses, hospital director Reintong Nanna told Newsflare last year. "These robotic nurses help to improve the efficiency and performance of working in the hospital," he said.

A new fleet of autonomous robots is now making one of the world's oldest foods

Washington Post - Technology News

In the beginning, archaeologists believe, the first breads were created using some of the most rudimentary technologies in human history: fire and stone. In the region that now encompasses Jordan, one of the world's most ancient examples -- a flatbread vaguely resembling pita and made from wild cereal grains and water -- was cooked in large fireplaces using flat basalt stones, according to Reuters. The taste is "gritty and salty," Amaia Arranz-Otaegui, a University of Copenhagen postdoctoral researcher in archaeobotany, told the news service. "But it is a bit sweet, as well." More than 10,000 years later, bread has clearly evolved but, perhaps, not as dramatically as the technology being used to bake it.
