New consoles used to come out every five years – so where's the PlayStation 6?
New consoles used to come out every five years - so where's the PlayStation 6? You used to be able to count the number of years between game consoles on one hand. The original Sony PlayStation came out in the UK in September 1995. Five years later, the PS2 was released and brought with it significant changes. It was a similar story for other consoles but, of late, things seem to have slowed down - which might explain why, as the PS5 hits its fifth anniversary, a potential PS6 is nowhere in sight.

HBO's 'The Last Of Us' Gives Hope To Video Game Adaptation Market
The 2013 video game "The Last of Us" was a hit with critics and players thanks to a powerful narrative. Ten years later, that story is headed to television on HBO in what the industry hopes is a harbinger for artfully adapting video games to TV and film. "The Last of Us," created by video game developer Naughty Dog and published by Sony Entertainment, follows hardened survivor Joel and his young protege Ellie as they navigate a post-pandemic world fighting people and mutated creatures. The zombie thriller, which premieres on Sunday, stars "Game of Thrones" veterans Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Pushing Buttons: Is The Last of Us remake really worth £70?
I've been playing The Last of Us Part 1 this week, a PlayStation 5 remake of Naughty Dog's landmark horror classic, first released in 2013. There's been a lot of justified grumbling about whether a nine-year-old game – which has already been remastered for the PlayStation 4 – can justifiably be sold again for £70; for most players, no graphics upgrade could ever be worth that much. People have praised Naughty Dog's dedication and attention to detail on this remake. It really does look and feel like a modern game. Personally, playing it again has made me think about how the world (and my own life) have changed in the last decade.

'The Last of Us Part I' is a gorgeous, faithful, expensive remake
Ever since Sony and Naughty Dog announced The Last of Us Part I, a $70, ground-up PS5 remake of the classic 2013 PS3 game, there's been an intense discussion around whether this even needs to exist. After all, Naughty Dog remastered the original game in 2014 for the PS4, giving it 1080p graphics at 60 fps, and it still looks solid. But, compared to The Last of Us Part II, which came out in June of 2020, the original shows its age. Facial expressions are less lifelike, and the environments, while still beautiful and well-designed, lack a certain level of depth and detail. As Naughty Dog co-president and The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann tells it, the idea for this remake came when they were animating flashbacks for Part II.
The NPC AI of The Last of Us: A case study
The last of us is a third-person shooter (TPS) action-adventure made by Naughty Dog and distributed by Sony Computer Entertainment developed majorly for PlayStation 3 and later on remastered for PlayStation 4 in 2014 [1]. Since it's release the game has received amazing reviews by game developer critics [2] [3] [4] as well as by the gaming community and is considered as the best game of the decade as per Metacritic [5]. The game is set in post-apocalyptic America after the parasitic Cordyceps fungus [6] has wiped out majority of the humanity as we know it and divided the entire world into the infected and the survivors. In the nature this species of fungus [7] can be seen attacking on the ants and taking control of their brains [8] forcing the ants to lose control and become a useless creature with only one job left - become host for the fungus, generating a massive sprout which eventually shoots out of their head and infect others eventually. Inspired by this natural phenomena, the creators of The last of Us thought of a scenario where a similar fungus affected the human body.

Horror classic The Last of Us remade for PlayStation 5 and PC
The classic 2013 horror game The Last of Us is being remade for PlayStation 5 and PC, developer Naughty Dog has announced. Retitled The Last of Us: Part I, the new version will be released on 9 September on PS5 and later on PC. The Last of Us follows widower Joel and teenager Ellie across a ravaged US in the wake of a pandemic that has turned most of its population into zombies, and won acclaim for its unflinching devotion to storytelling as well as the performances of its cast. It was a landmark game of the PlayStation 3 generation, and was remastered for PlayStation 4 in 2014. Announcing the remake on a Summer Games Fest livestream, director Neil Druckmann explained that the character models and animation have been redone to bring them closer to the real-life performances of the game's stars, Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie).
