Opera Neon browser launches with built-in AI and a monthly fee

PCWorld

Opera is resurrecting Opera Neon, a browser concept first introduced in 2017, and equipping it with the latest tech trend: agentic AI--an assistant you can assign tasks to, which it will carry out autonomously. Opera Neon will work like a normal browser. Opera, however, is integrating local AI that you can chat with privately and ask to do tasks and combining it with an interface to a remote server that will serve as a workspace of sorts for Opera Neon's AI creation tools. Most browsers are free; the twist here is that Opera Neon will require a paid subscription of an unknown amount, and potential users will be subject to a waitlist. Opera has a history of experimenting with innovative concepts--it was an early proponent of VPNs, for example.

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The iPhone 16 is already going to be expensive - and now analysts are warning you could have to fork out an extra monthly fee to use all of its features. Reports indicate users could pay up to 20 per month for premium Apple Intelligence, the tech company's flagship new AI system. This system will introduce a suite of new AI features, including the ability to create custom images and'Genmojis,' enhanced Siri capabilities, email generation through ChatGPT integration, and more. 'I think eventually there will be a gold, silver and bronze type of level, and for the gold service they'll charge per month,' Dan Ives, technology sector analyst, told DailyMail.com. Apple Intelligence is slated to launch this October as part of the iOS 18 software update.

Amazon launches Spotify rival in the UK

The Guardian

Amazon is launching its Spotify rival, Amazon Music Unlimited, in the UK with a headline price of £9.99 a month and access to a library of "over 40 million" songs. Those figures are comparable to competitors like Spotify and Apple Music, but where Amazon is focusing its competition is on a pair of special offers, as well as the tight integration with its own hardware ecosystem. The service is cheaper for those with an Amazon Prime subscription, the company's all-you-can-eat free delivery package. The monthly cost drops by £2, to £7.99, and an annual payment plan is available for £79 a year, taking the equivalent monthly fee to £6.58. That's how Amazon is hoping to entice users to upgrade from its other free streaming service, Amazon Prime Music.

Amazon launches for-pay streaming music service

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Amazon is taking on Apple and Spotify in the streaming music market - and hopes undercutting them will give it the edge. Amazon Music Unlimited will cost 8 per month, or 80 a year, for members of Amazon's 99-a-year Prime loyalty program. Non-Prime members will pay 10 a month, the same monthly fee charged by Spotify and Apple Music, while owners of Amazon's Echo smart speaker will be able to get the unlimited music service on one device for 4 per month. This image provided by Amazon Music shows a display of Amazon Music Unlimited, a paid streaming music service Amazon is launching. The music service is being positioned to compete against existing services such as Spotify and Apple Music.
