Adversarial information operations can destabilize societies by undermining fair elections, manipulating public opinions on policies, and promoting scams. Despite their widespread occurrence and potential impacts, our understanding of influence campaigns is limited by manual analysis of messages and subjective interpretation of their observable behavior. In this paper, we explore whether these limitations can be mitigated with large language models (LLMs), using GPT-3.5 as a case-study for coordinated campaign annotation. We first use GPT-3.5 to scrutinize 126 identified information operations spanning over a decade. We utilize a number of metrics to quantify the close (if imperfect) agreement between LLM and ground truth descriptions. We next extract coordinated campaigns from two large multilingual datasets from X (formerly Twitter) that respectively discuss the 2022 French election and 2023 Balikaran Philippine-U.S. military exercise in 2023. For each coordinated campaign, we use GPT-3.5 to analyze posts related to a specific concern and extract goals, tactics, and narrative frames, both before and after critical events (such as the date of an election). While the GPT-3.5 sometimes disagrees with subjective interpretation, its ability to summarize and interpret demonstrates LLMs' potential to extract higher-order indicators from text to provide a more complete picture of the information campaigns compared to previous methods.

North Korea has tested a new underwater nuclear-capable attack drone designed to unleash a "radioactive tsunami" that would destroy enemy naval vessels and ports, state media has reported. During a military exercise conducted this week under the guidance of the country's leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea's military deployed and test-fired the new weapons system, the mission of which was to test the ability to set off a "super-scale" destructive blast and wave, the country's state news agency KCNA said on Friday. "This nuclear underwater attack drone can be deployed at any coast and port or towed by a surface ship for operation," KCNA said. The news agency said that during the exercise, the drone was put in the water off South Hamgyong province on Tuesday and cruised underwater for 59 hours and 12 minutes, at a depth of some 80 to 150 metres (260 to 490 feet), before detonating in waters off its east coast on Thursday. KCNA did not elaborate on the drone's nuclear capabilities.

The Ministry of Defence is organising its first-ever "Robo-Wars" exercise this autumn, using drones, seacraft and a host of other innovations as part of the growing trend towards reducing the role of humans in combat. The large-scale event off the west coast of Scotland will form part of the regular UK-led Nato Joint Warriors exercise. The navy, on its website, is billing the robotic part as "Unmanned Warrior 2016", and says: "Recognising a commitment to innovation, the Royal Navy will host a large-scale demonstration in a tactically representative environment of maritime autonomous systems in the autumn of 2016." More than 80 countries around the world, including the US and China, have stepped up research and development of "killer robots" and other non-human forms of warfare. Although large-scale civilian casualties from robotic warfare – mainly from drones – are already a reality, military personnel, analysts and academics have predicted that combat would one day be conducted between armies of robots and unmanned vehicles.

The Royal Navy is testing just how much robot craft can do by themselves in military exercises off the British coast. Operation Unmanned Warrior 16 is a chance for allied nations and the defense industry to show off their latest maritime autonomous systems, as part of a broader military exercise called Joint Warrior. "Fire and forget" torpedoes capable of homing in on the noise emitted by a target -- then sinking it -- have been around since World War II, but the systems involved in this exercise are less offensive. More than 50 craft are taking part this week, including uncrewed helicopters and underwater vehicles, and an autonomous rigid inflatable boat (RIB).
