According to the report, AI adoption and investment have accelerated in the last five years, with businesses reporting AI becoming a bigger priority. AI adoption has more than doubled since 2017 (20% to 50%), with 63% of businesses expecting investment in AI to increase over the next three years. However, there has been a noticeable plateau, with the proportion of organizations adopting AI hovering between 50 and 60 percent for the past few years.

One thousand one hundred fifty-one respondents say their enterprises had adopted AI in at least one function. For additional details on the methodology, please see page 13 of the report. What makes this report noteworthy are the insights into how enterprises who adopted AI early focused on creating revenue-based business cases are getting results today.

Last week, McKinsey released its global survey on the state of AI, a report now in its third year. Interviews with executives and a survey of business respondents found a potential widening of the gap between businesses that apply AI and those that do not.
