Canada's Carney has enjoyed a long political honeymoon. Now comes the test
Canada's Carney has enjoyed a long political honeymoon. Mark Carney arrived on Canada's political scene last year as an Ivy League and Oxford educated economist and a former central banker for two countries. He had an impressive resume and ambitions to be prime minister but had never run for public office until replacing Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader. There was concern his lack of political experience would be a liability, but under his leadership, the Liberals won a minority government, which in a year had solidified into a narrow majority following the defection of five opposition members of parliament to his party. Carney tore up the rulebook, jumping from political neophyte to leading a G7 nation, and he is enjoying a lengthy honeymoon both in Canada and around the world as a globetrotting prime minister.

I Found an Entire Book That Was Written About … Me. It Only Got Weirder From There.
Have you ever stared in a mirror for a few hours? Try it: Watch as your nose somehow shifts placement on your face, how your eyebrows lose symmetry, how quickly you fail to recognize yourself. Facial dysmorphia would come to anyone tasked with considering their own reflection for too long. It's a similar experience when you promote a book. For the past few weeks, I've been touring Canada and the U.S. promoting my latest book, Sucker Punch.

Finance To Increase Machine Learning Use - Markets Media
Two thirds of financial services firms currently deploy machine learning and expect to increase their use of the technology within the next three years. The Bank of England and the UK Financial Conduct Authority conducted a joint survey this year on the current use of machine learning, a methodology where computer programmes fit a model or recognise patterns from data, without being explicitly programmed and with limited or no human intervention. This contrasts with'rules-based algorithms' where the human programmer explicitly decides what decisions are being taken under which states of the world. The study said the median firm uses live machine learning applications in two business areas and this is expected to more than double within the next three years. Bank of England's machine learning paper is also interesting.

Alan Turing, codebreaker and mathematician, to be face of Britain's new 50 pound note
Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, speaks in front of the concept design for the new Bank of England fifty pound banknote, featuring mathematician and scientist Alan Turing, during the presentation at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, north-west England on July 15, 2019. Alan Turing, a mathematician and codebreaker who deciphered German World War II messages, will appear on Britain's new 50 pound note. The Bank of England made the announcement Monday that Turing, who died in 1954, would appear on the currency and some of his work would also adorn the note. The action continues the posthumous accolades for the scientist, who after the war was charged with gross indecency after admitting to having a homosexual relationship, which was illegal at the time in Britain. To avoid imprisonment, he chose chemical castration with female hormones.

Robots could take millions of people's jobs causing a revival in COMMUNISM, Mark Carney warns
The Governor of the Bank of England has warned that the rise of robots in the workplace could cause a revival in Communism and 19th-century wage stagnation. Mark Carney, 53, said automation of millions of jobs would result in more support of Communist ideas within a generation. 'Marx and Engels may again become relevant' if mechanisation forces down pay and raises inequality, he warned. To alleviate the damage, Carney suggested workers should train for jobs that require higher emotional intelligence, for example in care and leisure. Speaking at the Canada Growth Summit in Toronto, Carney said there will be vast inequalities between workers who benefit from AI and those who have their job wiped out by it.

15m jobs in UK could be taken over by robots in the coming decades
A new report claims that from this point on, intelligent machines could become more vital to business than people. It estimates that up to 15 million UK jobs are at'high or medium risk' of being replaced by automation in the next two decades. And British people could face a reality that is somewhere'between Star Trek and the Matrix.' A new report claims that 60 per cent of British retail roles, around 2 million people, could be taken over by technology by 2030. Britain has reached'peak human', with intelligent AI more powerful than the human brain set to takeover everyday jobs and tasks The report, by Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) we are close to the point where humans are more important to labour than machines.
