The Top New Features in Apple's iOS 27 and iPadOS 27
Apple took the wraps off iOS 27 at its WWDC event, and the iPhone update is chock-full of smart upgrades, with a big focus on improvements to Siri. While the news coming out of WWDC 2026 is not as dramatic as last year's iOS 26 update, where the new Liquid Glass redesign caused a big stir, Apple's presentation still made waves. During the WWDC keynote, Apple walked through the changes coming to the next version of its mobile operating systems, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. These updates will roll out to iPhones and iPads later this year, likely in September. There are several smaller quality-of-life improvements, but the big highlight is the Siri AI upgrade .
You can finally tone down Liquid Glass on your iPhone
Your choice is applied immediately, and you can see the change in the preview window. However, the difference isn't as pronounced as you might expect across every part of iOS. One place you can see it is in the Photos app: Try scrolling up and down through your photo and video library and look at the floating bar at the bottom.
Everything Apple Announced at WWDC 2025
Apple held its annual developer conference today, and as usual used the keynote address to announce all of the new software features coming to Apple's many products this fall. This year's WWDC is occurring at a moment of unprecedented economic uncertainty. Apple's sales are expected to take a hit as President Trump continues to threaten the company with increased trade tariffs. The event also comes in the aftermath of the very AI-heavy conference of Apple's archrival Google, putting pressure on Apple to show off what has so far been a delayed and underwhelming foray into consumer-facing artificial intelligence. The company will focus on new hardware at its September event, but WWDC was all about the software.
Apple WWDC 2025: New iOS 26 promises the 'biggest changes in years' after launching 'worst AI in Silicon Valley'
Craig Federighi's opening remarks were nearly derailed by a protester who snuck into WWDC 2025 Monday afternoon. It's not clear what the protester said while they tried to interrupt Federighi's presentation of iOS 26, CNBC reported. Several major technology events have been interrupted by protests recently, most of which supported Hamas and protested the tech industry's business ties to the Israeli government. Apple CEO Tim Cook closed out Monday presentation of the company's new operating system by announcing that iOS 26 is now available to developers for Beta testing today. That means a pre-release version of the iOS 26 operating system for iPhones is now accessible for registered Apple developers to test.
