How to Deploy AI Inference on the Edge with the LG AIoT Board and AWS IoT Greengrass
With so many cloud applications infused with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities, AI/ML is being democratized by cloud services. The growth of AI in a wide range of applications demands more purpose-built processors to provide scalable levels of performance, flexibility, and efficiency. The LG AIoT board helps customers accelerate their computer vision and ML journey using Amazon Web Services (AWS). OEMs can now easily incorporate visual intelligence, voice intelligence, and control intelligence into their products. The LG Neural Engine (LNE) in the LG AIoT board offloads the compute requirements of deep learning algorithms to the specially designed processor, which delivers 1 TFLOPS of compute performance.
LG introduces next generation of laundry with new AI-powered washer
At CES, LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its most advanced innovation in laundry, deploying artificial intelligence to deliver precision washing for optimal results without the guesswork. The AI DD washer builds on 20 years of advancements in LG's groundbreaking Direct Drive motor, which delivers both effectiveness and efficiency. LG's new washing machine not only detects the volume and weight of each unique laundry load but also uses AI and advanced sensors to identify fabric types in each load. Using deep learning technology, the washer then compares this information against more than 20 thousand data points related to washer usage to program the optimal wash cycle setting for the best results, improving cleaning and extending the life of garments by 15 percent.* LG's most intelligent washer is able to detect a mixed load of t-shirts and pants (different from bedding, delicates and other fabric combinations) and program the wash cycle to use customized motions, temperatures and times for the optimal wash.
5G -- how improved connectivity will improve road and driver safety Lexology
Years ago, saying that improving telecommunication networks would improve road safety would attract some very strange looks -- surely, this would mean that drivers are more distracted and less focused on the road? The situation these days, however, is quite different -- 5G and road safety might just be the unlikeliest of friends. I recently attended an IP Seminar hosted by Volvo Cars, where connectivity and data were mentioned extensively. Connectivity in vehicles is one of the fastest-growing areas of technology. The proliferation of the 5G network will enable the realisation of technologies which are sure to improve road safety and lead to improved driving.
LG launches AI-equipped robot vacuum cleaner
South Korea's LG Electronics on Monday introduced its latest robot vacuum cleaner that is "smarter and stronger" than predecessors, with an improved artificial intelligence platform with 3-D sensors. The newly launched LG Cordzero R9 ThinQ features LG's AI platform Deep ThinQ whose navigation capabilities are reinforced with 3-D Dual Eye sensors. It is the first time the company equipped the AI platform to its robot cleaners for commercialization. Models showcase LG's newest robot vacuum cleaners (LG Electronics) The sensors help the cleaners learn about details of an indoor space, including locations of obstacles to stop by or bypass within a wide angle view of 160 degrees, the company said. By adopting a smart AI turbo, the new cleaner models can sense dusty areas, such as carpets and corners, where they need to increase suction power and adjust the brush and speed.
LG G7 ThinQ Revealed With Super Bright Display, Google Assistant And Smarter Cameras
LG Electronics has finally unveiled the LG G7 ThinQ in New York City. As expected, the LG G7 ThinQ features a notch on its display and impressive specs that could rival other Android flagships on the market. It features a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio display and is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The G7 ThinQ also has a super bright display at 1,000 nits and supports 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The display is said to be so bright that users should have no problem with visibility even when it's under direct sunlight.
LG will start selling Artificial Intelligence-powered OLED TVs globally soon
LG Electronics Inc said on Sunday that it will start global sales of the 2018 editions of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs, which are equipped with its Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform DeepThinQ this week. The South Korean tech giant said the new OLED TVs would hit the US market on Monday and gradually expand to countries in Europe, South America and Asia down the road, Yonhap news agency reported. LG Electronics said it would display the OLED TVs at some 500 branches of US retailer Best Buy, showcasing the company's latest Alpha 9 processor that delivers improved resolutions by optimising colour through AI technology. The company said the global market for OLED TVs is expected to reach 2.5 million units this year, rising sharply from 1.6 million units in 2017. In response to the rising demand, LG said it plans to expand the portion of OLED TVs in its portfolio to 20 per cent in 2018, up from last year's 15 per cent.

In The News This Week - Top 10 Robots
In The News This Week is a page intended to keep my readers up to speed with anything new that I pickup online or offline that has to do with the robotic world that we are now entering very rapidly. Other pages of this website reviews a number robots that we are using on a daily basis in order to help make our lives easier, or as hobby, sport, or for professional purposes. If you would like to share your experience with any kind of robots you are using, or simply comment or ask questions, please feel free to do so at the bottom of any page or article. My latest article of "In The News This Week" starts from here. A house of 95 m2 / 1,022 sq ft has already been built thanks to this new technique. On the slab of freshly poured concrete, a robot moves on its wheels and makes work tirelessly with his articulated arm. He draws expansive foam cords one above the other to form a shuttering in which he then pour the concrete. This is how he manages to build perfectly insulated walls on each side at a bewildering speed. "It's been an hour and a half since the work began and the walls are already over 80 cm / 31 in. It is not a prototype, he pointed out, but a place that is meant to be useful. The 95 m2 / 1,022 sq ft house was finished by the end of that week and ready for the coming Christmas once the finishing work was completed. After being opened to the public, this T 5 will then be inhabited, a year later, by "traditional" tenants on the Nantes Mรฉtropole Habitat waiting list. "This house, which is already certified, says Benoit Furet, teacher-researcher at the University of Nantes at the heart of this project is called Yhnova.
LG showcases robots that could replace workers in hotels, airports and supermarkets
The three new concept robots from LG Electronics are aimed at the services industry, in areas like hotels, airports and supermarkets. Here come our new robot overlords. A Korean tech giant has announced three new robots that take aim at the vast and fast-growing global service industry sector. Technologists and economists have long predicted that artificial intelligence and automation would one day sync up to eliminate millions of mostly low-wage jobs in the future. South Korea's LG Electronics is planning to sell robots to solve tasks currently completed by humans.
