Nvidia to invest $5bn in Intel after Trump administration's 10% stake Nvidia, the world's leading chipmaker, has announced plans to invest $5bn in Intel and collaborate with the struggling semiconductor company on products. A month after the Trump administration confirmed it had taken a 10% stake in Intel - the latest extraordinary intervention by the White House in corporate America - Nvidia said it would team up with the firm to work on custom datacenters that form the backbone of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, as well as personal computer products. Intel shares jumped nearly 23% after markets closed, making it the largest one-day percentage gain for the company since 1987.
How to watch LlamaCon 2025, Meta's first generative AI developer conference
After a couple years of having its open-source Llama AI model be just a part of its Connect conferences, Meta is breaking things out and hosting an entirely generative AI-focused developer conference called LlamaCon on April 29. The event is entirely virtual, and you'll be able to watch along live on the Meta for Developers Facebook page. LlamaCon kicks off at 1PM ET / 10AM PT with a keynote address from Meta's Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, Vice President of AI Manohar Paluri and research scientist Angela Fan. The keynote is supposed to cover developments in the company's open-source AI community, "the latest on the Llama collection of models and tools" and offer a glimpse at yet-to-be released AI features. The keynote address will be followed by a conversation at 1:45PM ET / 10:45PM ET between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi on "building AI-powered applications," followed by a chat at 7PM ET / 4PM PT about "the latest trends in AI" between Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. It doesn't seem like either conversation will be used to break news, but Microsoft and Meta have collaborated before, so anything is possible.

Schumer to call for AI regulation in keynote address
The booming popularity of AI-driven chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard has both captivated and concerned officials, who have said they are worried about again failing to protect consumers from the perils of Silicon Valley's latest craze. It's prompted lawmakers to hold a wave of public hearings and private meetings with industry leaders, researchers and advocates as they look to get their bearings in the quickly changing AI field.
Google I/O 2023: What to Expect and How to Watch
To be in California this May is to bear witness to many spectacles. Typically, Google is the one to get developer conference season rolling. The company's annual I/O conference kicks off this Wednesday morning with a keynote address. Like last year, the developer sessions will be held online instead of in person. But unlike last year, Google will deliver the keynote to a crowd of thousands--a mix of employees, partners, industry analysts, and media--at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, just a short driverless car ride from the company's headquarters.
Ivanka Trump speaks in CES keynote address at CES 2020 in Las Vegas
Ivanka Trump laid out her vision for the future of work and technology's role in reshaping the American economy and workforce in the coming decades during a controversial'fireside chat' at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) on Tuesday. Speaking the Venetian's Pallazo Ballroom - which just a night prior had been used to launch a slew of new robots and artificial intelligence by Samsung - Trump chose to focus on the business implications of technology. Trump said she had'no sympathy' for companies that complain about unskilled workforces, don't invest in're-skilling them,' and still lay off employees. While the president's daughter's talking points centered mainly on business, she said she believes that innovations like'robotic arms' would create jobs that aren't yet possible. Prior to her keynote, tech industry insiders hit out at the conference, questioning whether the White House advisor was a relevant speaker, but CES President and CEO, Gary Shapiro defended her presence and moderated her talk, entitled'The Path to the Future of Work.' Dressed smartly in pinstripes (left), Trump said she has'no sympathy' for employers who don't're-skill' their workers as she laid out her'vision' for the future workforce of the US and hit back at companies over layoffs Trump plugged the government panel she co-chairs, the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board - which includes members from Apple, and IBM - and took the private sector to task for their role in helping to train current members of the workforce.
Leading the Charge
Scientists from Intel, Amazon, Facebook and Google joined some of the leading academic minds on artificial intelligence (AI) to discuss the future of machine learning during the inaugural Responsible Machine Learning Summit hosted by UC Santa Barbara. With more than 120 students, faculty, business leaders and invited guests on hand, every speaker and panelist agreed on the importance of establishing an ethical foundation for machine learning, in which a computer uses algorithms and data to make predictions or decisions on its own. "We need to better understand the mutual influence between society and machine learning," said William Wang, a professor of computer science and organizer of the event. "Personally, I'm interested in improving the quality of life by learning the important societal factors and impacts that should be considered when building algorithms, such as fairness, transparency, privacy and accountability." The summit served as the opening for Wang's Center for Responsible Machine Learning.
2019 Spark AI Summit Europe Keynote Agenda
Spark AI Summit is the premier global event for the data and machine learning community to discuss the latest advances in open-source technologies such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow, Koalas and TensorFlow as well as best practices for deploying AI in the real world. In addition to over 100 exciting breakout sessions, this year's Spark AI Summit in Amsterdam 15-17 October will feature keynotes from some of the leading thinkers and innovators in AI. We're pleased to announce Katie Bouman's keynote address at this year's Spark AI Summit Europe. Katie was a postdoctoral fellow in the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and she received her Ph.D. from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in EECS. Currently, she specializes in using emerging computational methods to push the boundaries of imaging.
How federated learning could shape the future of AI in a privacy-obsessed world
You may not have noticed, but two of the world's most popular machine learning frameworks -- TensorFlow and PyTorch -- have taken steps in recent months toward privacy with solutions that incorporate federated learning. Instead of gathering data in the cloud from users to train data sets, federated learning trains AI models on mobile devices in large batches, then transfers those learnings back to a global model without the need for data to leave the device. As part of the latest release of Facebook's popular deep learning framework PyTorch last month, the company's AI Research group rolled out Secure and Private AI, a free two-month Udacity course on the use of methods like encrypted computation, differential privacy, and federated learning. The first course began last week and is being taught by Andrew Trask, a senior research scientist at Google's DeepMind. He's also the leader of Openmined, a privacy-focused open source AI community that in March released PySyft to bring PyTorch and federated learning together.
