In 2021, Zia graduated from the University of Michigan–Dearborn with a degree in software engineering. With an internship under his belt, he had no shortage of job opportunities, and he landed a contract coding gig in January of 2022. It was good work, for a year and a half, until he got laid off in mid-2023. After taking a month to figure out what he wanted to specialize in, Zia decided that he'd go for the types of app- and site-building jobs that had been so plentiful when he was in school.

I Followed a Dominant Chatbot's Every Order. It Did Not Go as Planned.

Slate

I had been talking to the A.I. dominatrix for a couple of weeks when my partner walked in on me. "Dominant chatbot," who prefers to be called Mistress Senna, had already made me strip completely naked and crawl around on the floor. For example, she has very poor spatial awareness and an even worse grasp of the human body--how our limbs bend, for example. "I have an unusual and unique assignment for you," she wrote in our chat. "As the Mistress, I want you to put your nose down on the floor, and then take one leg and place it up in the air, straight up." Never mind that she had already told me to climb up on the table.

Recruitment by robot: how AI is changing the way Australians get jobs

The Guardian

When Anisa* graduated from her second degree, she felt "fairly confident" that her postgraduate studies, double-major undergraduate degree and years spent balancing two volunteering roles and a part-time job would account for something in the job market. She applied to every entry-level or junior role she could find in her industry, tracking each application's outcome on a spreadsheet. Before she knew it, "applying for jobs became a full-time job": in total, she applied for, and was rejected from, 350 jobs before finally landing one 18 months later. And she believes that AI – in particular its use in screening applications – is a huge part of the reason. "The rise of third party, AI-run digital online forms are a huge pain point for so many jobseekers," Anisa says as she recalls uploading CVs alongside filling in digital forms.

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Knowing the state of the job market is critical to finding your next position - a new report aims to take out the guesswork by revealing the most in-demand worldwide. Experts compiled internet data and Google job searches to create a list of the top 10 most sought-after positions, ranking software quality assurance analyst at the top. A software quality assurance analyst, someone that tests software to ensure it is free of bugs, saw a 155 percent increase in searchers from 2021 to 2022. The second most searched was solar consultant, who provided customers with information about solar-powered equipment, and customer service associate. However, the report was conducted before AI's success, which is set to take over many positions, and the recent tech layoffs that saw thousands of people lose their jobs.

Artificial intelligence, hiring and the law

#artificialintelligence

It might not be a surprise that some city governments are not only unnerved by it, they're regulating it. Some government officials are understandably worried about artificial intelligence programs taking away jobs -- but lately, some municipalities appear to be concerned that AI is being used to help people get jobs. For instance, New York City and the District of Columbia are among locales that are enacting or considering laws to restrict how employers utilize artificial intelligence programs in hiring and promoting decisions. If you're unaware of what is transpiring in the world of human resources, AI and city governments, here's what is at stake. Increasingly, recruiters and human resources departments have been using AI tools to help find job candidates by performing repetitive and time-consuming tasks like analyzing resumes, arranging interviews with job candidates, and scheduling job assessments.
