Perplexity's iOS app gets an AI voice assistant
Perplexity has rolled out an update for its iOS app, giving iPhone users access to its AI voice assistant that was initially released for Android users earlier this year. Its voice assistant can perform tasks for the user by browsing the web or accessing other apps for them. If they ask the assistant to find them a table for a specific restaurant, for instance, Perplexity can launch the OpenTable app with the number of people, the date and the time already filled out. The user still has to perform the final action and book a reservation, but it's already laid out for them -- all they have to do is click the button. Users can also ask the assistant to draft emails for them for specific contacts, which they'll have to send themselves, and create reminders for them on the calendar.
ChatGPT's chatbot rival Claude to be introduced on iPhone
OpenAI's ChatGPT is facing serious competition, as the company's rival Anthropic brings its Claude chatbot to iPhones. Anthropic, led by a group of former OpenAI staff who quit over differences with chief executive Sam Altman, have a product that already beats ChatGPT on some measures of intelligence, and now wants to win over everyday users. "In today's world, smartphones are at the centre of how people interact with technology. To make Claude a true AI assistant, it's crucial that we meet users where they are – and in many cases, that's on their mobile devices," said Scott White at Anthropic. The third version of the Claude chatbot is offered direct to users on its website in three flavours: a speedy and simple model called "haiku", a slower and more powerful model called "sonnet", and, for paying customers only, the full "opus" system.
Opera's AI browser assistant is now available in its iOS app
Opera announced today that its Aria AI assistant has made its way to iOS. The feature launched on desktop in June and stems from a partnership with ChatGPT creator OpenAI. Opera says Aria, now available on all major desktop and mobile platforms, has tallied over a million users on desktop and Android. Like Microsoft's Bing Copilot and Google's Search Generative Experience, Aria can answer questions and respond to context around active web pages. "As an expert in both web navigation and browser functions, Aria facilitates AI collaboration in tasks such as information retrieval, text or code generation, and product inquiries," Opera's Kseniia Sycheva wrote in the company's announcement post today.
ChatGPT for iOS gets support for Siri and Shortcuts
OpenAI has announced a few new updates for its iOS app, including Shortcuts integration. Now you can create a ChatGPT prompt in Shortcuts and save it as a link between the AI tool and different apps. For example, ask ChatGPT to answer a problem or look up a fact and then message the response to your friend or save it as a note. You can also now ask Siri to bring up ChatGPT or create these Shortcuts. A new drag and drop feature further integrates ChatGPT across iOS devices, letting you pull messages out of its interface and into other apps.
The use of new technologies to support Public Administration. Sentiment analysis and the case of the app IO
Miracula, Vincenzo, Picone, Antonio
Since 2005, there has been an increasing development of digitization within the public administration that sees the introduction of the use of technology as a privileged tool in the management of administrative activities. The main objective is to promote digitization in administrations in order to achieve greater efficiency in their activities in internal relations, between different administrations, and between the latter and private individuals. The entry of artificial intelligence into public action, however, needs to be accompanied by an adequate regulatory framework to guarantee the rights of those administered. The notion of digital transformation has gained significant attention in the literature[1]. Although approaches to the definition of digital transformation vary[2], most authors suggest that digital transformation involves the use of ICT technology to create fundamentally new capabilities in business, public administration[3] and people's lives[4].
How will Enterprises Succeed in 2023 with VR and AI? - Idea Usher
VR and AI (virtual reality and artificial reality) are not new inventions. VR uses technology to create simulated environments into which we can immerse ourselves, whereas AI seeks to empower technical gadgets with the understanding and awareness of a responsive creature. Recently, significant improvements have been made to enhance VR and AI and integrate them to develop a unified type of technology with virtually limitless possibilities. Both VR and AI have a growing market; a Grand View Research study claims that by 2025, "the worldwide artificial intelligence market size is estimated to reach USD 390.9 billion." Between 2019 and 2025, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 46.2 percent.
The Morning After: MIT engineers' stroke-surgery robot
Don't worry, yes, there are even more Musk machinations, but first let's broach something a little different -- and possibly lifesaving. A team of MIT engineers is developing a telerobotic system for neurosurgeons. It unveiled a robotic arm that doctors can control remotely using a modified joystick to treat stroke patients. The arm has a magnet attached to its wrist, and surgeons can adjust its orientation to guide a magnetic wire through the patient's arteries and vessels to remove blood clots in the brain. Like in-person procedures, surgeons will have to rely on live imaging to get to the blood clot, but the machine means they don't have to be physically with the patient.
Clearview AI's source code and app data exposed in cybersecurity lapse
A security lapse at controversial facial recognition startup Clearview AI meant that its source code, some of its secret keys and cloud storage credentials, and even copies of its apps were publicly accessible. TechCrunch reports that an exposed server was discovered by Mossab Hussein, Chief Security Officer at cybersecurity firm SpiderSilk, who found that it was configured to allow anyone to register as a new user and log in. Clearview AI first made headlines back in January, when a New York Times exposé detailed its massive facial recognition database, which consists of billions of images scraped from websites and social media platforms. Users upload a picture of a person of interest, and Clearview AI's software will attempt to match it with any similar images in its database, potentially revealing a person's identity from a single image. Since its work became public, Clearview AI has defended itself by saying that its software is only available to law enforcement agencies (although reports claim that Clearview has been marketing its system to private businesses including Macy's and Best Buy).

Azure Notebooks: ML Training and Mobile Deployment with Skafos
Microsoft provides a free training environment powered by Jupyter Notebooks/Labs where sharing and collaborating is central to the user experience. Because they've made it so easy to share projects with peers, we created a set of projects for you to explore. While this tool is still in "beta" mode, we're excited about where it will go in the near future! Once inside the Jupyter Lab environment, notice that there are three example notebooks you can choose between. If you want to follow along with this post, I will be using the image-classification-examples project and the dogs_and_cats.ipynb
