Apple's next low-cost iPads might skip Face ID

Engadget

If the redesigned iPad Pro gave you hope that Apple would deliver a similar overhaul for lower-cost iPads, you might want to temper your expectations. Code sleuther Steve Troughton-Smith has discovered that the iOS 12.2 beta references four new iPad configurations that don't include Face ID, suggesting they'll stick to Touch ID and thus a more conventional design. This isn't shocking when Apple is likely sticking to a lower price point, but it does suggest that it could be a while before the company's depth-sensing camera tech is truly affordable. That same code also references a new iPod touch -- no, Apple hasn't forgotten about its last pocketable media player. While there's no mention of exactly what's new, it wouldn't have either Face ID or Touch ID.

The New iOS 12: How it will Impact iPhone App Development

#artificialintelligence

The new iOS 12 released on September 2018, and a host of new features have left the iOS developers both excited and anxious. Excited because of the possibilities: the new devices are now 40% faster at launching apps, 50% faster at displaying the keyboard, and 70% faster at launching the camera app, has the ability to set app limits, and come with visual "do not disturb" and a new USDZ file type. Anxious because, of course, all these new features are going to set new users preferences, which will ultimately affect business requirements, which will further impact the iPhone App Development process. The release of Apple's new operating system, iOS 12 is also crucial in the wake of Google's Android Pie update and Google Pixel 3 launch, so the developers have a lot more learn and adjust to new technologies. Moving ahead, Apple has also launched a round of hardware, including A12 bionic, a 64-bit ARM-based system on a chip, which claims to be 15% faster and 40% more energy-efficient than A11.

Apple iPhone XS Review: Excess at its Best

TIME - Tech

Last year's iPhone X was a groundbreaking device, in part due to the removal of what made the iPhone so iconic. Gone was the fingerprint-scanning home button, and in its place was an aesthetically controversial "notch" to make room for the Face ID security (and Animoji) functionality. It was also groundbreaking in terms of price. It may have debuted alongside the $699-and-up iPhone 8, but it was the first thousand-dollar smartphone from Apple, a price a surprisingly high number of people were able to stomach for the sake of having the coolest phone on the block. With the new iPhone XS and XS Max, Apple is trying to tell us something: like it or not, this is the future of the iPhone.

Apple iOS 12 review: Less mess

Engadget

The wait is over: After a splashy announcement at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June, iOS 12 is finally ready. While it's far from the flashiest iPhone update ever -- there's no visual overhaul here or many hyped-up new features -- iOS 12 might be the most pleasant Apple software update I've ever used. As reported many, many times even before the announcement, Apple's developers focused on sanding down the software's rougher edges and making iOS as a whole faster and easier to use. That was no small feat, especially when you consider the number of issues that wound up plaguing last year's big software release. For once, Apple crafted a software update that feels just as valuable on old hardware as it does on the shiny new stuff.

This suggests Apple will release its next-generation iPad this autumn, adding weight to widespread rumours the firm is planning to unveil a new iPad Pro in October. Numerous reports suggest the Cupertino company is poised to release an iPad Pro with no Home button, slim bezels, and Face ID facial recognition next month. Apple has declined to comment on the rumours, but the company has historically held standalone iPad launch events in October.
