Meta Is Going to Let Job Candidates Use AI During Coding Tests
Meta told employees that it is going to allow some coding job candidates to use an AI assistant during the interview process, according to internal Meta communications seen by 404 Media. The company has also asked existing employees to volunteer for a "mock AI-enabled interview," the messages say. It's the latest indication that Silicon Valley giants are pushing software engineers to use AI in their jobs, and it signals a broader move toward hiring employees who can vibecode as part of their jobs. "AI-Enabled Interviews--Call for Mock Candidates," a post from earlier this month on an internal Meta message board reads. "Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant. This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective."

When Ty landed an introductory phone interview with a finance and banking company last month, they assumed it would be a quick chat with a recruiter. And when they got on the phone, Ty assumed the recruiter, who introduced herself as Jaime, was human. "The voice sounded similar to Siri," said Ty, who is 29 and lives in the DC metro area. Ty realized they weren't speaking to a living, breathing person. Their interviewer was an AI system, and one with a rather rude habit.
Black megachurch sued by female senior pastor candidate for gender discrimination
Violet Crown City Church Pastor Jay Cooper said that using AI to conduct a service at his church did not capture the essential elements required for Christian worship. A prominent Black megachurch in New York City is being accused of discriminating against a woman who lost her bid to become its senior pastor. Yale Divinity School Professor Eboni Marshall Turman filed a lawsuit against Abyssinian Baptist Church alleging she was rejected from the final round of candidates applying to lead the church after the death of Rev. Calvin O. Butts III in 2022. Marshall Turman previously served as the late reverend's assistant and was the church's youngest female Assistant Minister from 2002-2012. In her Dec. 29 lawsuit, she accuses the church and search committee chair Valerie S. Grant of acting inappropriately by "pressing issues not broached with [Marshall Turman's] male counterparts" during the interview process, the Associated Press reported.

Machine learning can help mitigate the biases present within organisations' recruiting practices Artificial intelligence has often been portrayed as dystopian when it comes to human resources. In one famous example from 2018, Amazon used it significantly in the hiring process but ultimately had to pull the plug when it was revealed that the algorithm was biased against women. AI in hiring might do more harm than good
The use of artificial intelligence in the hiring process has increased in recent years with companies turning to automated assessments, digital interviews, and data analytics to parse through resumes and screen candidates. But as IT strives for better diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), it turns out AI can do more harm than help if companies aren't strategic and thoughtful about how they implement the technology. "The bias usually comes from the data. If you don't have a representative data set, or any number of characteristics that you decide on, then of course you're not going to be properly, finding and evaluating applicants," says Jelena Kovačević, IEEE Fellow, William R. Berkley Professor, and Dean of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The chief issue with AI's use in hiring is that, in an industry that has been predominantly male and white for decades, the historical data on which AI hiring systems are built will ultimately have an inherent bias.
