Enabling AI Developers on Their Journey to Scale with Intel AI

#artificialintelligence

The challenges associated with getting AI models into production are well known. What developers need now are ways to address those challenges. Ramtin Davanlou, from Accenture*, presents his thoughts around how developers can get their models in production and do it more quickly during his presentation at the oneAPI DevSummit for AI 2022. Davanlou first discusses the development cycle to deploy AI systems and its associated challenges. He emphasizes that to move through this cycle successfully requires the combination of both hardware acceleration and the software optimizations provided by oneAPI.

Samsung's latest robot vac uses AI to recognize small obstacles

#artificialintelligence

Samsung is claiming a few world firsts with its latest robot vacuum cleaner, which was originally launched at CES 2021 back in January. The Jet Bot AI is said to be the first to feature an active stereo-type 3D sensor for object detection, and the first equipped with Intel AI for object recognition. "We're truly excited to introduce a robot vacuum that comes with industry-leading object detection and recognition technologies," said Samsung's Hyesoon Yang. "Consumers can now clean their homes more intelligently and efficiently using the AI-powered Jet Bot that makes cleaning more personalized and convenient." The company's design team wanted to equip the automated cleaning assistant with enough smarts that it could "actively and efficiently clean like humans" and do so without much intervention from users.

Laika is using Intel AI to enhance its stop motion films

#artificialintelligence

It goes without saying that the film industry has been revolutionized by technology. Although stop motion animation isn't as popular as it once was, it is also benefitting from technological innovation. Laika, the studio behind films like "Coraline" and "Kubo and the Two Strings," is using artificial intelligence (AI) technology from Intel to clean up its projects. The use of machine learning tools helps the studio cut back on what used to require thousands of hours of manual labor. It is yet another example of how AI can be impactful across every sector.

AI for Youth Uses Intel Technology to Solve Real-World Problems

#artificialintelligence

In Bangalore, India, 10th grader Rahul Jaikrishna developed Cyber Detective – an artificial intelligence-based model that detects cyber bullying with an accuracy of up to 80%. Fourteen-year-old Jaikrishna was inspired after learning that "confession pages" created by school students – online diaries on social media where young people post confessions and secrets – often make teens easy targets for bullying. Jaikrisha didn't learn AI programming in his everyday 10th grade syllabus. He picked it up via the Intel AI for Youth program, which launched in 2019 in three countries and was offered at his school. This year, AI for Youth will scale to nine countries.

Healthcare data is projected to grow by 43 percent by 2020, to a hard-to-fathom level of 2.3 zettabytes. Eighty percent of it is unstructured and mostly unlabeled, making it hard for organizations to extract value from the datasets.[1] In the UK, the number of CT scans increased by 33% between 2013 and 2016 while the number of radiologists only increased by 3% per year. There are several studies that show that when radiologists are forced to work faster, their average interpretation error rate rises and can have a significant impact on patient care.[2] The cost of developing a new drug averages around $2.5 billion, and the process itself can take more than 10 years -- a huge barrier to the development of targeted treatments.[3] Healthcare data is projected to grow by 43 percent by 2020, to a hard-to-fathom level of 2.3 zettabytes.

The second component is a suite of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) models for segmenting potential customers. Web pages are fed into a multi-label convolutional neural network (CNN) text classification model that was developed by Yoon Kim. We further boost it by utilizing a pre-trained multi-lingual BERT language model developed by a team at Google to help scale across languages and classes with scarce training data. The data we use to train the model is enriched by crawling tens of thousands of company sites with labeled industry information found on Wikipedia. For companies without labels, we take advantage of the vast labeled Wikipedia corpus by employing semi-supervised learning.

Intel joins CBSE to empower 1 lakh Indian students in Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Tech giant Intel and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to digitally empower nearly 1 lakh students with Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in India's education system. Initiatives include the roll-out of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum framework for grades VIII, IX and X for 22,000 schools, with the aim to empower 1 lakh students within 2020, the company said in a statement. The curriculum is based on'Intel AI For Youth', which is an immersive, hands-on learning programme using experiential methodologies covering both social and technological skills. "AI has become a strategic imperative for worldwide economic growth and will continue to be one of the most crucial technologies of the future," said Shweta Khurana, Director-Programmes, Partnerships and Policy Group at Intel India. "Our collaboration with CBSE is a meaningful step towards enabling our youth to become digitally-empowered and effectively utilise emerging technologies such as AI to solve pressing local and global challenges," Khurana added.

Artificial Intelligence at the Edge - Intel AI

#artificialintelligence

We are thrilled to be collaborating with AWS across both edge and cloud-based solutions, covering the entire spectrum of AI. AWS DeepLens represents the latest addition to Intel's artificial intelligence solutions with Amazon which include the Intel Speech Enabled Developer Toolkit, the Intel powered Amazon Echo Show and Echo Look, and the Intel Xeon Scalable processors for AWS's new C5 instance family. C5 instances offer the lowest price per vCPU in the Amazon EC2 family and are ideal for running advanced compute-intensive workloads including machine and deep learning. The Intel AI portfolio has a broad suite of products and software solutions, from the edge to the cloud, enabling developers to focus on their science and drive the next wave of innovation in AI.

Red Cross - Intel AI

Many regions around the globe that are most susceptible to natural disasters are also missing critical maps that emergency response workers need to get supplies in, and people out. Intel teamed up with the American Red Cross to build a deep learning algorithm that could significantly speed up mapping of these regions using satellite imagery.
