The Incredible Power of Quantum Memory

WIRED

The original version of this story appeared in Quanta Magazine. It's not easy to study quantum systems--collections of particles that follow the counterintuitive rules of quantum mechanics. Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, a cornerstone of quantum theory, says it's impossible to simultaneously measure a particle's exact position and its speed--pretty important information for understanding what's going on. In order to study, say, a particular collection of electrons, researchers have to be clever about it. They might take a box of electrons, poke at it in various ways, then take a snapshot of what it looks like at the end.

'This is changing lives' - Career expert explains why you should use ChatGPT to prepare for an interview

Daily Mail - Science & tech

OpenAI's ChatGPT has been used to pen-hit Eurovision songs, prep church sermons and diagnose patients. But the AI chatbot might also help regular folks land their dream job. A life coach on TikTok has a new use for the AI, which she says is'changing lives.' Namely, ask ChatGPT to use the job description to come up with possible interview questions and answers in advance of the real thing. 'That was dramatic, but it is changing lives,' career coach Darci Smith told her followers on the platform.

Meet the workers using ChatGPT to take on multiple full-time jobs - and their employers have NO idea

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Employees have admitted that they are using ChatGPT - the revolutionary chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI) - to work multiple full-time jobs. They refer to themselves as'overemployed', because the tool allows them to complete the workload of each role in at least half the time. Most of the jobs they do involve a fair amount of writing, like creating marketing materials, which the chatbot has proven to be remarkably adept at. ChatGPT is a large language model - an AI system that has been trained on huge amounts of text data to generate human-like responses to given prompts. When it was released for free by start-up OpenAI in December, it opened the eyes of the public to just how powerful the technology has become in recent years.

Meet some of the companies that are harnessing the incredible power of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept found in science fiction films – it is today's technology. The power and capabilities it offers are growing, creating a future filled with possibility. The potential of AI was showcased at a Microsoft event in London recently. Journalists, scientists and researchers heard from Microsoft spokespeople such as Harry Shum, Executive Vice-President of Microsoft AI and Research Group, and Chris Bishop, Laboratory Director at Microsoft Research Cambridge. Among the announcements, including Microsoft's AI for Earth initiative, a number of companies spoke about how they are using the power of AI to drive innovation.

The Spooky Secret Behind Artificial Intelligence's Incredible Power

#artificialintelligence

Spookily powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems may work so well because their structure exploits the fundamental laws of the universe, new research suggests. The new findings may help answer a longstanding mystery about a class of artificial intelligence that employ a strategy called deep learning. These deep learning or deep neural network programs, as they're called, are algorithms that have many layers in which lower-level calculations feed into higher ones. Deep neural networks often perform astonishingly well at solving problems as complex as beating the world's best player of the strategy board game Go or classifying cat photos, yet know one fully understood why. It turns out, one reason may be that they are tapping into the very special properties of the physical world, said Max Tegmark, a physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a co-author of the new research.
