How Artificial Intelligence Can Bring People Together
Artificial intelligence (AI) enables people to spend more time with those that matter the most. AI is bringing people together, whether it's assisting in the planning of a family vacation, getting to a place securely, allowing everyone to see each other on a video call, or making gift shopping a little easier. The continuous evolution of AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact with each other. While AI is often portrayed as a divisive force that could lead to job losses and social inequality, it also has the power to bring people together and create new opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. In this article, we will explore some of the ways in which AI can be used to bridge social, cultural, and linguistic barriers and foster greater understanding and empathy among diverse communities. One of the most significant benefits of AI is its ability to facilitate communication across different languages.

Creating a more inclusive society through AI Microsoft #TechTalk
Technological progress benefits people across society, but it can play a special role in supporting people with disabilities. At the intersection between artificial intelligence (AI) and inclusive design is a sweet spot where intelligent machines can enable more people to live independent lives. This sweet spot is what Saqib Shaikh, a Microsoft software engineer who also happens to be blind, is focused on. In 2014, Saqib participated in Microsoft's first company-wide hackathon, developing an idea for using AI to empower individuals with visual impairments. This eventually evolved into Seeing AI.
AI can help to bridge the digital divide and create an inclusive society
Globally, there are large disparities in access to health, education, etc. and the UN's Sustainable Development Goal No. 10 is aimed at reducing inequalities for the world's most vulnerable. For example, according to global association of mobile operators (GSMA), although eighty percent of the population in developing countries owns a mobile phone, still more than 1.7 billion women do not own one, according to a recent report on the subject. Anecdotally, there are more mobile phones in the developing world than adults. We see an increasing number of apps and services that are now being offered digitally. Moreover, cheap alternatives to text messaging and social networking platforms have enabled more people to communicate information with each other in the last decade than anything has in over a century since the discovery of the telephone.
