This simply turns everything white, besides the main subject of your image--there are no tools or settings to play around with in this case. As you would expect, it works better for images where the main subject is more obvious, but the results can be impressive--and can save you a lot of manual image editing time.

In the last two years, Microsoft has invested a lot of money in the ChatGPT inventor Open AI and in its own AI developments. Since then, Microsoft has been equipping more and more programs with artificial intelligence, above all the Edge browser and Office programs. But AI is also finding its way into Windows. In this article, we present the new AI functions in Windows, the Windows apps, and Microsoft 365. Microsoft's AI engine Copilot has been part of the operating system since Windows 11 23H2 for U.S. users, and is available via the Copilot app in the Microsoft Store for others.

Microsoft Designer's AI art and editing capabilities are becoming more formally integrated into Windows and Microsoft's services today, as they move into Photos, Word, and PowerPoint. Designer is the next stage of Microsoft's evolution of AI art, which began in 2022 with Bing Image Creator, migrated to the more advanced Dall-E 2 model, then became part of Microsoft Designer, the wonderful AI-powered design tool that debuted in 2022. Designer's layout elements compete directly with Canva, but Microsoft isn't confining the Designer elements to just the app. The most simple integration is within Word and PowerPoint. You'll need a Copilot Pro subscription, but if you have one, you'll be able to use AI to generate a background for a PowerPoint slide or an integrated graphic inside of a Word document.

Microsoft's Paint app now boasts not just one, but two AI art tools -- Image Creator and Cocreator -- and boy, are they something. First things first: Microsoft Cocreator, the scaled-down version of Microsoft's Bing Image Creator/Microsoft Designer, is still the engine of AI art in Paint. Type in a prompt, and it will create a scene according to your description and style. Microsoft Cocreator was renamed to Image Creator, and Microsoft Cocreator is now an entirely different tool. The king is dead; long live the king.

The year 2023 was a roller-coaster ride for Microsoft, as the tech giant faced both triumphs and tribulations in its quest to dominate the industry. From launching new products and services, to dealing with lawsuits and scandals, to making some surprising moves and announcements, Microsoft had its share of wins, fails, and WTF moments. I asked Microsoft Copilot to write that, saving me a precious minute or two. And then it happily gave me an example: the launch of Windows 11…which, of course, actually happened in October of 2021. So, yeah, that was Microsoft's 2023 in a nutshell: All the promise of AI, tempered with the reality that it still needs a lot of work.

Microsoft Paint is gaining generative AI powers with Paint Cocreator, a new feature debuting in conjunction that will eventually arrive in Windows 11 23H2, now known as the Windows 11 2023 Update. It's a big win for Paint, which was on its deathbed as late as 2017. Now, Paint will essentially become a launcher and editor for Microsoft's Bing Image Creator, a lovely AI art tool that creates AI-generated images from text prompts. This doesn't appear to be an overly complex update: A new "Cocreator" button appears on the toolbar. Click it, and a sidebar opens to the right.

Artists concerned about others passing off AI-generated art as their own will now be able to breathe a bit easier: Microsoft has agreed to sign all AI art that its apps generate with a cryptographic watermark indicating it was made with an algorithm. The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authority (C2PA) began work in 2021 to develop an open standard for indicating the origin of digital images, and whether they were authentic or AI-generated. The issue was thrust into the spotlight in March, when AI-generated images of the Pope in a stylish puffy jacket went viral, and AI-art generator Midjourney clamped down to prevent even more. Microsoft, a founding member of the C2PA, will announce at its Microsoft Build developer conference this week that it will cryptographically sign AI-generated images from Bing Image Creator and Microsoft Designer. Images made with Bing Image Creator already include a small "b" for the Bing logo in the bottom right-hand corner.

Microsoft is taking its superb AI art / visual designer tool, Microsoft Designer, and opening it up to the general public today. The company is also publicizing its intelligent features: AI-generated captions and hashtags, new image formatting for social media, and AI-powered editing tools. We called Microsoft Designer nearly an AI masterpiece when we went hands-on with the tool several months ago, and now you have a chance to try it out for yourself, too. While Designer doesn't fall into the category of the best AI art generator tools, it stands nearly alone with Canva and Adobe's design tools as a way to develop a holistic design from the ground up. Bing Image Creator is an innovative tool that allows users to generate stunning images with ease. This tool has a vast database of images and allows users to create images in different styles, including cartoons, 3D images, and optical illusions. As a user of this tool, I must say that I am impressed with the results that I have seen. I first used Bing Image Creator to generate some cartoon characters, and I was delighted with some of the ones it created. The tool allowed me to choose different features for the cartoon characters, such as the size of the eyes, the shape of the nose, and the style of the hair.

Microsoft is taking its integration of AI tools one step further with the rollout of Bing Image Creator. The new AI-powered image creation tool can create images from a text prompt and harnesses OpenAI's impressive DALL-E model to bring your words to life (well, still life). Better still, Microsoft Bing Image Creator is free to use, meaning you can create completely new, AI-generated images from scratch with almost zero limitations. The Official Microsoft Blog revealed the launch of Bing Image Creator on 21 March 2023, and it is the next step in Microsoft's plans for generative AI content following the launch of its Bing AI Chat. Bing AI Chat uses OpenAI's GPT-4 model to power its responses. But Bing Image Creator uses another of OpenAI's powerful array of artificial intelligence models, DALL-E, to turn text prompts into images.
