Bar Hopping? Try The Hair Of The Robo Dog – The Tennessee Tribune – IAM Network
SEVILLE, Spain--A robotic dog serves drinks to customers at a bar in Seville, Spain, in a test is to see how successfully it interacts with humans. The robotic dog, created by Macco Robotics, walks to clients sitting in outdoor terraces as curious locals watch. Others filmed the experience Oct 31. At one point in the footage, the robot engages in various maneuvers to accomplish its mission. The company is studying the dog's interaction with people as it serves drinks, but is also determining how well the metallic canine performs additional jobs, said Macco Robotics CEO Victor Martin.

TipRanksOppenheimer Sees These 3 Stocks Skyrocketing Over 100%The U.S. presidential election has come to a close, and Wall Street isn't opposed to the administration change. Last week saw the S&P 500 notch its second-best performance during an election week on record, even as Trump's chances of getting re-elected became slimer and slimer.Weighing in for Oppenheimer, Chief Investment Strategist John Stoltzfus noted, "What appears clear so far is that the equity markets are not averse to a change of administration stateside at least so long as the Republicans maintain control over the Senate. Checks and balances'on the Hill' have been known to be important to investors over the course of history. The present in our view is no exception."There That said, Stoltzfus points out that continued better-than-expected Q3 results from S&P 500-listed companies, economic data tied to job gains and a sharp decline in the unemployment rate have also been helping to prop stocks up.Taking Stoltzfus' outlook into consideration, we wanted to take a closer look at three stocks earning …

Facebook is now using AI to sort content for quicker moderation – IAM Network
Facebook has always made it clear it wants artificial intelligence to handle more moderation duties on its platforms. Today, it announced its latest step toward that goal: putting machine learning in charge of its moderation queue. Here's how moderation works on Facebook. Posts that are thought to violate the company's rules (which includes everything from spam to hate speech and content that "glorifies violence") are flagged, either by users or machine learning filters. Some very clear-cut cases are dealt with automatically (responses could involve removing a post or blocking an account, for example) while the rest go into a queue for review by human moderators.

Robotic Cartoning – IAM Network
The vision-guided system changes the cartoning game with the integration of JLS TRAK and handles a variety of packaging with on-the-fly changeover. The high-speed, flexible Peregrine utilizes a proprietary positive carton transport (PCT) system to retain full control of the carton from forming through loading, without ever letting go.PACK EXPO Connects – November 9-13. Now more than ever, packaging and processing professionals need solutions for a rapidly changing world, and the power of the PACK EXPO brand delivers the decision makers you need to reach. Attendee registration is open now. The flexible carton loading system minimizes changeover while meeting production needs for small batches.
Robotic Technology makes advancements in total knee replacement surgery – IAM Network
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.– Two years of knee pain was enough for a Little Rock woman to finally get some help. I wanted to get this done. Let's get on the road," says Lou Peyton, patient. Lou Peyton was eager to do something about it. Baptist Health Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Richard Nix told her about Mako, a robotic arm assisted technology.

VIDEO: High school students shoot for the moon with robotic rover – IAM Network
Using the NASA moon rover as their inspiration, robotics students at Lake City Secondary School are nearing completion of a working, remote-controlled, wheeled robot rover of their own design. The rover, named The Helios Vulturem (Helios was the Greek titan of the sun, and Vulturem is Latin for Falcon -- the school's mascot and namesake) was designed by Grade 12 robotics students Nathan Cisecki, Jonathan Wolfe, Jayden Guichon, Eric DeVuyst and Colby Ostrom under the guidance of robotics teacher Nick MacDonald, along with some assistance from Grade 11/12 metalwork students Cole Rochefort and Cameron Smithson. The students began the year disassembling a broken-down, miniature quad to eliminate broken parts and repair salvageable ones, while the metalwork students welded the broken steering column and assisted in the reconfiguration of the chassis. "We'd seen this quad sitting up there on a shelf in Mr. MacDonald's class in Grade 10, and he mentioned to us it would be our senior year project, but we never thought we'd be able to make it into a rover," Ostrom said. Four years has led up to this," Cisecki added.
Amazon's Robotics Deals Have Paid Off, And One Investor Thinks Ocado's May As Well. – IAM Network
Amazon eight years ago purchased robotic fulfilment system maker Kiva Systems for $775 million, a deal paying very clear dividends now as the acquisition boosted delivery capacity from warehouses. Luca Ramotti, an analyst at Legal & General Investment Management, said the firm recently heard from the co-founder of Kiva Systems, Raffaello D'Andrea, who said Amazon has been able to deploy hundreds of thousands of mobile robots that run on artificial intelligence.
Coiling robotic gripper grasps objects like an elephant's trunk – IAM Network
Chameleon tongues, gecko feet and octopus tentacles are just a few of the animal body parts we've seen inspire soft robotic grippers, but nature still has plenty to offer researchers in this field. A team in Australia is the latest to tap into the world of biomimicry, demonstrating a new type of robotic gripper modeled on an elephant's trunk, with the ability to pick up and release objects even when they're tucked away in confined spaces. The invention is the handiwork of a robotics team working under Dr Thanh Nho Do at Australia's University of New South Wales (UNSW), who just a couple of months ago showed off a haptic feedback device that can give gloves a finer sense of touch. This time around the team set out to recreate the gripping abilities of elephants and other animals that are similarly able to embrace objects using their coiling body parts."Animals "These animals can do this because …
