Hyper Chariot: 4,000mph pods could go from London to Edinburgh in 8 minutes, company claims

The Independent - Tech

People could soon travel from London to Edinburgh in eight minutes, claims Hyper Chariot, a company that has announced its intention to build an extremely ambitious new transport system. It would be capable of reaching speeds of 4,000mph, and could also be emission-free and 100 per cent solar-powered, "thanks to the use of solar panels mounted on the outside of the tunnels", according to the company. It says it wants the network to be fully operational by 2040, and plans to unveil a working'proof of concept' demonstrator, called'The Velocitator', in 2021. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. 'Hyper Chariots' catapult car-sized capsules at 4000 mph

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The ambitious Hyper Chariot concept uses roller coaster-type technology to catapult car-sized capsules through airless concrete tubes at five times the speed of sound - and more than five times faster than Elon Musk's Hyperloop. The hypersonic public transport system, presided over by Hollywood actor Matthew Modin, will be fully operational by 2040 with test centres opening next year, the founders claim. The apparent public transport of the future will accelerate from 0 to 1,000mph (1,600 km/h) in just 60 seconds and will reach an astonishing top speed of 4,000mph (6,400 km/h). A spokesman for Hyper Chariot said tickets for the eight minute journey would be'highly competitive', with fares for London to Edinburgh costing around £100 ($127).
