Futurist Adam Dorr on how robots will take our jobs: 'We don't have long to get ready – it's going to be tumultuous'

The Guardian

If Adam Dorr is correct, robots and artificial intelligence will dominate the global economy within a generation and put virtually the entire human race out of a job. The social scientist doubles up as a futurist and has a stark vision of the scale, speed and unstoppability of a technological transformation that he says will replace virtually all human labour within 20 years. Dorr heads a team of researchers who have studied patterns of technological change over millennia and concluded that the current wave will not just convulse but obliterate the labour market by 2045.

For Silicon Valley, AI isn't just about replacing some jobs. It's about replacing all of them Ed Newton-Rex

The Guardian

I recently found myself at a dinner in an upstairs room at a restaurant in San Francisco hosted by a venture capital firm. The after-dinner speaker was a tech veteran who, having sold his AI company for hundreds of millions of dollars, has now turned his hand to investing. He had a simple message for the assembled startup founders: the money you can make in AI isn't limited to the paltry market sizes of previous technology waves. You can replace the world's workers – which means you can capture their salaries. Replacing all human labour with AI sounds like the stuff of science fiction.

Michael Roberts - AI-GPT: a game changer? - Brave New Europe

What is AI_GPT and its possible future role? ChatGPT is being heralded as a revolution in'artificial intelligence' (AI) and has been taking the media and tech world by storm since launching in late 2022. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT is "an artificial intelligence trained to assist with a variety of tasks." More specifically, it is a large language model (LLM) designed to produce human-like text and converse with people, hence the "Chat" in ChatGPT. GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer.

How AI Can Assist Sustainability in the Healthcare Industry

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the programming of machines to simulate the complex thinking that, until recently, only humans had been capable of. Of course, the advantages of AI are clear: speeding up processes, recognising more intricate patterns, and dealing with large amounts of data and information. While humans can do this work manually, AI is quickly eating into the monopoly, becoming useful across many sectors, including the healthcare industry. In a survey of business executives across the healthcare industry, over 50 per cent of respondents believed that AI will be ubiquitous in healthcare by 2025. The need for AI in healthcare is clear.

The future of work 3 – automation

#artificialintelligence

In this third part of my series on the future of work, I want to deal with the impact of automation, in particular robots and artificial intelligence (AI) on jobs. I have covered this issue of the relationship between human labour and machines before, including robots and AI. But is there anything new that we can find after the COVID slump? The leading American mainstream expert on the impact of automation on future jobs is Daron Acemoglu, Institute Professor at MIT. In testimony to the US Congress, Acemoglu started by reminding Congress that automation was not a recent phenomenon.

4 Skills That Won'T Be Replaced By AI In The Future

#artificialintelligence

New Delhi, June 4 (IANSlife) You've probably heard for years that the workforce would be supplanted by robots. AI has changed several roles, such as using self-checkouts, ATMs, and customer support chatbots. The goal is not to scare people, but to highlight the fact that AI is constantly altering lives and executing activities to replace the human workforce. At the same time, technological advancements are producing new career prospects. AI is predicted to increase the demand for professionals, particularly in robotics and software engineering. As a result, AI has the potential to eliminate millions of current occupations while also creating millions of new ones.

Benefits to Manufacturing Industry from Automation:

#artificialintelligence

What do you first visualise when you imagine a manufacturing unit? You will think of a big space, large machines and workers. There will be machines doing their work at break-neck speed. The workers check the quality of the functioning machines. They ensure that the end product meets the requirements of the clients.

How Robots will Affect Human Life?

#artificialintelligence

Regarding the impact of robots, there is a major debate among people about whether their effect would be positive or negative. The use of robots is growing around us. The following article aims to list the major effects robots will have on human life. Robots generally complete work that is monotonous or strenuous for human beings. The aim of making robots is not to replace humans, but it is to free them from the tedium of performing most of the basic and low-level tasks.

AI and the future of work: Main changes to expect in the next years

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here to stay, and many people are not happy. After all, it is hard to embrace something that could displace about 40 per cent of human jobs in the next 15 years. In an interview for CBS's 60 minutes, Kai-Fu Lee (a Chinese AI expert) also mentioned truck drivers, chauffeurs, waiters, and chefs as some of the professions that will be disrupted. That right there must have hit a nerve. However, everything is about to change because this article highlights some of the reasons you should not fear AI. And even if you were to ask the experts, they would unwaveringly confirm that regardless of all the noise, AI is here to benefit us all.
