Hezbollah conducts wargames near Lebanon's border with Israel

Al Jazeera

Lebanon's Hezbollah movement has carried out military exercises near the country's southern border with Israel in a show of its military power. About 200 Hezbollah fighters used live ammunition and an attack drone to take part in the exercises on Sunday in Aaramta, 20km (12 miles) north of the Israeli border. The drills took place ahead of the anniversary of Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon on May 25, 2000. It was the largest demonstration of Hezbollah's military might in years. Hezbollah fighters carried out simulated raids involving sniper and drone attacks against Israeli targets as part of the exercise.

Twin suicide bombers hit Damascus police station, killing 17

The Japan Times

BEIRUT – Two suicide bombers stormed a police station in the Syrian capital on Monday, killing at least 17 civilians and police, state TV reported, while a drone strike in eastern Syria killed 10 Hezbollah fighters who were helping Syrian troops battle the Islamic State group. The Syrian government is at war with the IS group as well as a local al-Qaida affiliate and an array of rebel groups, none of which immediately claimed the attack. It was also unclear who struck the Hezbollah fighters. Lt. Gen. Mohammad al-Shaar, Syria's interior minister, told reporters that two "terrorists" attacked the police station in the al-Midan neighborhood of Damascus with a number of bombs on Monday, before one of them blew himself up. He said the other bomber made it inside the compound, where police killed him, causing his bomb to explode.

Air Strike Kills Seven Hezbollah Fighters in Syria-Sources

U.S. News

BEIRUT (Reuters) - An air strike carried out by an unidentified warplane killed seven Hezbollah fighters in eastern Syria, three sources familiar with the incident told Reuters on Monday. The identity of the warplane was not confirmed, but the sources did not rule out the possibility that it was Russian "friendly fire". The sources did not say when the air strike happened. The air strike struck a Hezbollah position in eastern Homs province, where the Iran-backed Lebanese group is fighting Islamic State alongside the Syrian and Russian militaries. Asked about a report that a U.S. drone carried out the strike, the spokesman of the U.S.-led Coalition said the location was outside its area of operations.
