As Key Talent Abandons Apple, Meet the New Generation of Leaders Taking On the Old Guard
Players walk clockwise in a circle. When the music stops, everyone sits in a chair. Big Tech is setting in motion its plans for the next gen of lead designers, engineers, AI chiefs, and even CEOs. In Cupertino, Apple execs with familiar faces are retiring or reducing responsibilities. Well, chief operating officer Jeff Williams retired in November, and the speculation is that CEO Tim Cook could follow in the near term. Lisa Jackson, who has led Apple's sustainability efforts since 2013, is now set to retire in January too.

Building a Knowledge Graph for Job Search using BERT Transformer - DataScienceCentral.com
While the natural language processing (NLP) field has been growing at an exponential rate for the last two years -- thanks to the development of transfer-based models -- their applications have been limited in scope for the job search field. LinkedIn, the leading company in job search and recruitment, is a good example. While I hold a Ph.D. in Material Science and a Master in Physics, I am receiving job recommendations such as Technical Program Manager at MongoDB and a Go Developer position at Toptal which are both web developing companies that are not relevant to my background. This feeling of irrelevancy is shared by many users and is a cause of big frustration. In general, however, traditional job search engines are based on simple keyword and/or semantic similarities that are usually not well suited to providing good job recommendations since they don't take into account the interlinks between entities.

The Making Of Sophia: Hardware Engineering for Arms and Hands - Hanson Robotics
Social robots living and working with humans must be able to navigate environments never designed for use by robots. Arms and hands are a vital tool for robots to manipulate common everyday objects, like door handles, pens, keyboards, or switches, not to mention giving humans handshakes or high-fives! Hands are also an essential means of communicating between people. They can be used as nonverbal shortcuts, like giving a thumbs up, or as a means to express a variety of different emotions. By having a human-like hand design, social robots can take advantage of these many nonverbal cues humans use to communicate.
Robotaxi Startup Zoox Becomes A Big Acquirer Of Tesla-Incubated Talent
Zoox co-founders Tim Kentley-Klay, center, and Jesse Levinson, center left, with staff at the company's new headquarters in Foster City, California, in April. At least 16% of the robotaxi startup's staff came from Tesla. Elon Musk's larger-than-life image and pursuit of clean auto and energy tech help Tesla attract talented engineers who are drawn to its mission. Inevitably, a lot of those bright people also discover that many companies put a premium on skills they've honed at Tesla, none more so than the stealthy robotaxi startup Zoox. The Silicon Valley-based company, led by Australian artist and designer Tim Kentley-Klay, plans to deploy fully robotic, electric ride-service vehicles, with no steering wheels or brake and accelerator pedals, that it's designing from the ground up.
