Text-based Aerial-Ground Person Retrieval

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This work introduces Text-based Aerial-Ground Person Retrieval (T AG-PR), which aims to retrieve person images from heterogeneous aerial and ground views with textual descriptions. Unlike traditional Text-based Person Retrieval (T -PR), which focuses solely on ground-view images, T AG-PR introduces greater practical significance and presents unique challenges due to the large viewpoint discrepancy across images. To support this task, we contribute: (1) T AG-PEDES dataset, constructed from public benchmarks with automatically generated textual descriptions, enhanced by a diversified text generation paradigm to ensure robustness under view heterogeneity; and (2) T AG-CLIP, a novel retrieval framework that addresses view heterogeneity through a hierarchically-routed mixture of experts module to learn view-specific and view-agnostic features and a viewpoint de-coupling strategy to decouple view-specific features for better cross-modal alignment. We evaluate the effectiveness of T AG-CLIP on both the proposed T AG-PEDES dataset and existing T -PR benchmarks. The dataset and code are available at https://github.com/Flame-Chasers/T

AerialGo: Walking-through City View Generation from Aerial Perspectives

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

High-quality 3D urban reconstruction is essential for applications in urban planning, navigation, and AR/VR. However, capturing detailed ground-level data across cities is both labor-intensive and raises significant privacy concerns related to sensitive information, such as vehicle plates, faces, and other personal identifiers. To address these challenges, we propose AerialGo, a novel framework that generates realistic walking-through city views from aerial images, leveraging multi-view diffusion models to achieve scalable, photorealistic urban reconstructions without direct ground-level data collection. By conditioning ground-view synthesis on accessible aerial data, AerialGo bypasses the privacy risks inherent in ground-level imagery. To support the model training, we introduce AerialGo dataset, a large-scale dataset containing diverse aerial and ground-view images, paired with camera and depth information, designed to support generative urban reconstruction. Experiments show that AerialGo significantly enhances ground-level realism and structural coherence, providing a privacy-conscious, scalable solution for city-scale 3D modeling.

A Semantic Segmentation-guided Approach for Ground-to-Aerial Image Matching

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Nowadays the accurate geo-localization of ground-view images has an important role across domains as diverse as journalism, forensics analysis, transports, and Earth Observation. This work addresses the problem of matching a query ground-view image with the corresponding satellite image without GPS data. This is done by comparing the features from a ground-view image and a satellite one, innovatively leveraging the corresponding latter's segmentation mask through a three-stream Siamese-like network. The proposed method, Semantic Align Net (SAN), focuses on limited Field-of-View (FoV) and ground panorama images (images with a FoV of 360{\deg}). The novelty lies in the fusion of satellite images in combination with their semantic segmentation masks, aimed at ensuring that the model can extract useful features and focus on the significant parts of the images. This work shows how SAN through semantic analysis of images improves the performance on the unlabelled CVUSA dataset for all the tested FoVs.
