What we know after the big Grand Theft Auto 6 preview

BBC News

After more than 18 months since the last official glimpse of Grand Theft Auto 6, developer Rockstar has shown fans a 26-minute preview of the upcoming blockbuster video game. Its extended look debuted on Netflix, six hours before going live on YouTube, and was the first chance players have had to see detailed footage of the title in action. The montage, with no commentary or explanatory captions, showed off improved graphics, detailed environments and a selection of car-chases and shoot-outs from the sequel. The broadcast followed a week of unauthorised gameplay leaks, which the developer said it had been heartbreaking to see shared online. After it got its chance to show the version of GTA 6 it wanted the world to see, here are some things we learned, and some things we still don't know. The extended look spent a long time showcasing the relationship between protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Camino, the couple at the centre of GTA 6's Bonnie and Clyde story.

GTA 6 leaks - a nightmare or a blip for the biggest video game of the year?

BBC News

It's been more than 18 months since the last trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released. A few weeks ago, developer Rockstar announced it would break its long silence with a special extended look at the highly anticipated video game in a 30-minute special on Netflix. But the run-up to the splashy preview has been potentially overshadowed by a string of apparent leaks which appear to show footage of GTA 6 in action. Rockstar has not publicly acknowledged the clips, nor replied to any requests for comment, since the first leaks appeared on Wednesday. But there's plenty to suggest the material that's been posted online is genuine.

New consoles used to come out every five years – so where's the PlayStation 6?

BBC News

New consoles used to come out every five years - so where's the PlayStation 6? You used to be able to count the number of years between game consoles on one hand. The original Sony PlayStation came out in the UK in September 1995. Five years later, the PS2 was released and brought with it significant changes. It was a similar story for other consoles but, of late, things seem to have slowed down - which might explain why, as the PS5 hits its fifth anniversary, a potential PS6 is nowhere in sight.

Why does Grand Theft Auto 6 keep getting delayed?

BBC News

Why does GTA 6 keep getting delayed? When Grand Theft Auto 6 was delayed on Thursday, the famous quote from the series perfectly captured the feelings of many video game fans. It's the second time maker Rockstar Games has told players they'll have to wait even longer for what is likely to be one of the biggest entertainment releases ever. The notoriously perfectionist developer has a history of holding on to its blockbusters until it's happy with them, so the news wasn't a complete surprise. But it has got millions asking what's taking so long, and why. Rockstar Games officially confirmed it was working on GTA 6 in February 2022 and an initial trailer, released almost 18 months later, said it would come out in 2025.

The Morning After: Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming fall 2025

Engadget

One of the biggest, most iconic gaming series is almost back. Grand Theft Auto 6 is apparently on track for a fall launch next year -- a little more specific than the previous release window of "2025." There's no new trailer, and GTA publisher, Take-Two, is not quite ready to offer a specific release date. CEO Strauss Zelnick told Variety: "I think we're going to leave it there for now." The sixth mainline installment will be set in Leonida (Rockstar's Florida equivalent) and focused mostly on Vice City (Miami).

PlayStation 5 Pro will be an 'enormous' jump in tech with 8K resolutions and artificial intelligence in time for release of GTA6, experts say

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro will boast a'enormous' leap in console power, experts claim. The upgraded console is set to land later this year but supposed elements of its makeup are already being shared online. Sony's new unit is expected to be just in time for one of the biggest game releases of the next few years - with Grand Theft Auto 6 promised for 2025. Insider Gaming revealed a number of headlines for the PS5 Pro, foremost of which is'rendering 45 per cent faster than PS5' thanks to a refreshed graphics processing unit (GPU). The leak also mentions 8K resolutions and artificial intelligence.

Rockstar just released a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6

Engadget

Rockstar has released the trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI, the next game in the blockbuster video game franchise a day earlier than expected. It's been a decade since Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V. While fans have been more than able to keep themselves busy with GTA Online and a few re-releases, they've been waiting patiently (or impatiently) for more single-player action. The wait's now much shorter as Rockstar has revealed the first official look at the game's debut trailer. As indicated by a recent teaser image and various rumors, GTA VI will be set in Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, and largely centered on Vice City, the series' stand in for Miami. Given that the trailer features a ton of Instagram-style live streaming, GTA VI seems to be a contemporary game, rather than one set in the '80s like 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Pushing Buttons: the fast, furious world of games releases

The Guardian

There was a time when it was possible to play pretty much every interesting video game released in a given year, from nailed-down 9/10 blockbusters to that divisive horror curio. That's not the case now – not only because games have gotten longer and more involving, as I wrote about last week, but also because so many of them are released. The publisher model, where a few big companies controlled the release calendar, has given way to a mix of legacy megaliths (Sony, EA, Nintendo, Microsoft), indie publishers (Devolver, Annapurna, Team17), self-releasing developers and everything in between. How is a player supposed to keep up? Good curation is one of the most useful things a games critic can offer in 2022.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is in production, according to reports

The Independent - Tech

Grand Theft Auto 6 is on its way, according to a report. Developers Rockstar have begun work on the follow up to GTA 5, which was released in 2013 and is by many measures the most successful and expensive game in history, according to a report from TechRadar. The company hasn't yet settled on a location and it isn't clear exactly when the new game will be released. It might not be released for some years yet – GTA V came five years after its predecessor. The game is unlikely to be set outside of the US, according to the same report.
