Hexagon releases machine-learning GIS tool for smart cities - GPS World

Hexagon's Geospatial division has launched M.App Enterprise 2021, a significant update to its platform for creating geospatial and location intelligence applications. The latest release features new browser-based 3D capabilities and enhanced visual effects, plus the ability to create and configure custom applications more easily. M.App Enterprise 2021 adds complete and seamless integration with Hexagon's LuciadRIA. Now, users can access LuciadRIA's 3D features, including support for panoramic imagery, shading, ambient occlusion and other visualization effects, to build browser-based solutions with no development necessary. The latest version also features a new browser app configurator that makes it even easier to create spatio-temporal dashboards, known as Smart M.Apps.


L3Harris to help DOD with artificial intelligence, machine learning - GPS World

L3Harris Technologies will help the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) develop artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) systems to help reduce the amount of time it takes to decipher usable intelligence from increasing amounts of data collected from space and airborne assets. L3Harris will research, develop and demonstrate an AI/ML interface using data science techniques under a new multimillion-dollar contract to support DOD applications. "L3Harris' work will allow the DOD to turn massive volumes of data into actionable intelligence," said Ed Zoiss, president, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. "The abundance of data collected by space and airborne assets is only increasing. The findings of this research will directly address the data processing challenges within the DOD and intelligence community."


Sapcorda expands GNSS augmentation service for autonomous vehicles - GPS World

GNSS augmentation solution targets North America and Europe with safe and precise centimeter-level accuracy performance from two geostationary satellites. Sapcorda Services GmbH is now testing its GNSS augmentation services for the L-band signal in North America and Europe. The testing lays the foundation for a Dec. 1 launch of what Sapcorda said will be the strongest, most reliable GNSS augmentation signal for safety-critical navigation in autonomous vehicles and machinery. Available in areas without GSM coverage or mobile internet signal, the new Sapcorda L-band beam solutions from two geostationary satellites provide PPP-RTK data-feed redundancy in real-time by swapping to a second data feed when internet connectivity is not available. This automated swapping significantly improves reliability for life-critical applications such as autonomous cars. "To use GNSS in mass-market safety-critical applications, manufacturers need GNSS augmentation services that provide correction data with safety-critical positioning," said Botho zu Eulenburg, CEO, Sapcorda.


UPS to develop new delivery drones with Wingcopter - GPS World

UPS Flight Forward (UPSFF) is collaborating with German drone-maker Wingcopter to develop the next generation of package delivery drones for a variety of use cases in the United States and internationally. UPSFF is a subsidiary of UPS dedicated to drone delivery. UPS chose Wingcopter for its unmanned aircraft technology and its track record in delivering a variety of goods over long distances in multiple international settings. "Drone delivery is not a one-size-fits-all operation," said Bala Ganesh, vice president of the UPS Advanced Technology Group. "Our collaboration with Wingcopter helps pave the way for us to start drone delivery service in new use-cases. UPS Flight Forward is building a network of technology partners to broaden our unique capability to serve customers and extend our leadership in drone delivery."


IWCE 2020 to highlight drones, 5G, artificial intelligence - GPS World

The International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE), set to take place March 30 to April 3, will key in a number of industry topics, including 5G, FirstNet, drones, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, wearables and push-to-talk communications. IWCE will also feature a drone demonstration area and safe cities section. The event is designed for those in the critical communications industry, including first responders, police enforcement, fire departments and government. According to show organizers, more than 7,000 people are expected to attend the five-day event. IWCE will also include educational workshops, short courses, power sessions, keynote addresses, town hall meetings and networking events.
