r/MachineLearning - [Discussion] Google patent "GENERATING AUDIO USING NEURAL NETWORKS"
This specification describes how a system implemented as computer programs on one or more computers in one or more locations can generate a sequence of audio data that includes a respective audio sample at each of multiple time steps . For example, the sequence of audio data can represent speech in a particular natural language or a piece of music.
Self-Driving Cars: Google X Moves Away From Fully Autonomous Cars
Google Inc. announced in 2015 its self-driving car, without a steering wheel or pedals, would be ready by 2020. The company, which ushered in the era of self-driving by unveiling the first fully functional prototype of its vehicle in 2014, is no longer interested in making a fully autonomous car. The Information reported Monday the technology company will focus on other practical uses of automotive technology. It is collaborating with Fiat Chrysler for a line of semi-autonomous cars with traditional driving features. The goal of the collaboration is to have a semi-autonomous taxi fleet on the roads by the end of next year.
Google patents 'Pedestrian Glue' for self-driving cars
Google has a patent for "Pedestrian Glue," designed to keep pedestrians from falling under the vehicle if they are hit by a self-driving car. The patent describes an adhesive layer that "may be a very sticky material and operate in a manner similar to flypaper, or double-sided duct tape," designed to prevent pedestrians from further injury, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The technology, which will also work on ordinary cars, will bring both the vehicle and the pedestrian to a "more gradual stop than if the pedestrian bounces off the vehicle," the patent states. The sticky stuff will be under an eggshell-like layer so it won't end up covered in insects during everyday vehicle use. The idea sounds like it has the potential to prevent injuries, American Physical Society spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson tells Gizmodo.
Google patents 'sticky' layer to protect pedestrians in self-driving car accidents
Google has patented a new "sticky" technology to protect pedestrians if – or when – they get struck by the company's self-driving cars. The patent, which was granted on 17 May, is for a sticky adhesive layer on the front end of a vehicle, which would aim to reduce the damage caused when a pedestrian hit by a car is flung into other vehicles or scenery. Related: Google's self-driving car: How does it work and when can we drive one? "Ideally, the adhesive coating on the front portion of the vehicle may be activated on contact and will be able to adhere to the pedestrian nearly instantaneously," according to the patent description. "This instantaneous or nearly-instantaneous action may help to constrain the movement of the pedestrian, who may be carried on the front end of the vehicle until the driver of the vehicle (or the vehicle itself in the case of an autonomous vehicle) reacts to the incident and applies the brakes."
