My Bootcamp Journey @GlobalAIHub

#artificialintelligence

While planning to learn the basics of deep learning, I came across the Bootcamp of Global AI Hub. Although I have technical knowledge of machine learning, I think that my coding skills were deficient, and I wanted to attend an organized course. Therefore I attended two programs; International Machine Learning Bootcamp and Deep Learning Bootcamp, especially to communicate with new people and learn the things I didn't dwell on enough in a structured program. I have completed the 4-course programs listed below, which are free of charge on the Global AI Hub's site. Again, the courses are entirely free as part of the nonprofit and social good effort initiative "10million.AI".

Introduction to Deep Learning

#artificialintelligence

This article is based on Global AI Hub as the content. I have prepared this article to explain and make sense of it intuitively. Please visit the Global AI Hub and show your appreciation, it is a great free resource for Data Science.[1] I suggest you read my "Introduction to Machine Learning" article before reading this article(you can still understand without reading it). Deep learning is a type of artificial neural learning. There is no exact amount, but in general, an ANN (artificial neural network) with many (5 or more) hidden layers is called deep (structured) learning. Artificial neural networks are computing systems inspired by biological neural networks in animal's brains. An ANN is made up of a network of interconnected units or nodes called artificial neurons. Each node on an artificial neural network is called a neuron because they work like a neuron as you can see below.

UAE prepared to be a global AI hub by 2030 - Morning Tick

#artificialintelligence

The region expects to collect almost 15% of its GDP – roughly $95b – by 2030 from its growing AI industry. Toward this end, it has invested heavily in the sector. To actualize the goal, UAE created the position of'Minister of State for AI' in 2017 to boost citizens' participation in the technological drive. This is a clear indication that the government wants to hold a firm grip on disruptive technology. Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the current Minister of State for AI, recently advocated for the technology in an interview.

The story of Alberta AI starts on April 1, 1964, with the opening of the University of Alberta's department of computing science. Researchers such as Randy Goebel would graduate from the department and set the foundation for early work on the science of natural language processing and AI in the 80s, the latter of which took the form of studying games like chess. By the '90s, however, several'AI winters' -- periods of funding constraints for research and lack of press interest to generate public excitement -- inhibited the discoveries coming out of the university. "The symptoms of the winter are more that industries [that] bought into the idea that expert systems could help them found that it was way too expensive to implement," said Goebel, now a U of A professor and principal investigator at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). "If you scale up, it costs a lot to have you and me write down processes for chemistry, for example."

Alibaba and SenseTime Team to Make Hong Kong a Global AI Hub - AI Trends

#artificialintelligence

Alibaba is teaming up with SenseTime, the world's highest-valued AI startup, to launch a not-for-profit artificial intelligence lab in Hong Kong in a bid to make the city a global hub for artificial intelligence. Alibaba, which is SenseTime's largest single investor thanks to a recent $600 million round at a valuation of $4.5 billion, is providing financing for the "HKAI Lab" through its Hong Kong entrepreneurship fund. SenseTime said it will contribute too, although the total amount of capital backing the initiative hasn't been revealed. The partners of the project -- which also includes the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) -- said the aim is to "advance the frontiers of AI," which includes helping startups commercialize their technology, develop ideas and promote knowledge sharing in the AI field. That's all fairly general -- Alibaba has a track record of politicking through technology investment schemes in Greater China and Southeast Asia -- but one tangible project is a six-month accelerator program planned for September which will welcome AI startups to the HKAI Lab.

ANALYSIS: Brisbane has the talent and ideas to be a global AI hub - Choose Brisbane

#artificialintelligence

Many of you will have heard of artificial intelligence (AI). You are probably aware that it is not the indestructible Arnie chasing after you in an old, abandoned factory but you may not realise how much of your life already functions on AI. As a general rule, any digital system that exhibits an aspect of human intelligence, such as perception or decision-making, is likely to be running on AI. Have you ever wondered how Google Maps precisely knows every location you search for? The amount of imagery data that would need to be analysed to annotate each house address in the entire world would take an army of workers several years.

France makes its bid to be recognized as a global AI hub

#artificialintelligence

Tucked into a courtyard in central Paris, the 35 employees of Snips are hunched over their computers trying to put the finishing touches on a new version of the company's artificial intelligence app for smartphones. The company is packed full of big brains, many of them products of France's leading universities and a culture that is historically strong in mathematics. And they're not afraid to let you know it. Etched into winding wooden staircases that lead to Snips offices are a series of math puzzles that job recruits are asked to solve as they work their way upstairs. Snips' app wants to scan all the data across the apps on your smartphones to deliver insight about you and eventually become a hyper-smart personal assistant. But it promises to take a privacy-friendly approach by keeping all the data on your phone, where it will do the processing, rather than hoovering data up into the cloud.
