Avalanche Studios unveils nostalgic '80s robot shooter 'Generation Zero'

If you've caught the '80s nostalgia bug after Stranger Things, this could be the game for you. Machines have taken over rural Sweden, and it's unclear how or why. And it's up to a group of young adults to stop them. That's the gist of Generation Zero, an open-world shooter announced by Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios just a few days before E3 kicks off. The '80s-style soundtrack should give life to the game, which sees you trying to solve the mystery of why the machines are attacking while you're battling them.

In case you haven't heard, the 80's are back with a vengeance. From BumbleBee to Stranger Things, the decade that left a lasting impression on gamers of a certain age is once again seeping into pop culture with its nostalgic embrace. Avalanche Studios, the creators of ambitious and chaotic open world games like Just Cause 3 and Mad Max, is tapping that vein hard with its newly announced co-op shooter Generation Zero. Here's the debut trailer which was released minutes ago. Now tell me this doesn't make you think "yep, that's Horizon: Zero Dawn but in the 1980's and with robots that look like robots."
