MSA - Technique for Stiffness Modeling of Manipulators with Complex and Hybrid Structures

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The paper presents a systematic approach for stiffness modeling of manipulators with complex and hybrid structures using matrix structural analysis. In contrast to previous results, it is suitable for mixed architectures containing closed-loops, flexible links, rigid connections, passive and elastic joints with external loadings and preloadings. The proposed approach produces the Cartesian stiffness matrices in a semi-analytical manner. It presents the manipulator stiffness model as a set of conventional equations describing the link elasticities that are supplemented by a set of constraints describing connections between links. Its allows user straightforward aggregation of stiffness model equations avoiding traditional column/row merging procedures in the extended stiffness matrix. Advantages of this approach are illustrated by stiffness analysis of NaVaRo manipulator.

AI-Enhanced Kinematic Modeling of Flexible Manipulators Using Multi-IMU Sensor Fusion

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Abstract-- This paper presents a novel framework for estimating the position and orientation of flexible manipulators undergoing vertical motion using multiple inertial measurement units (IMUs), optimized and calibrated with ground truth data. The flexible links are modeled as a series of rigid segments, with joint angles estimated from accelerometer and gyroscope measurements acquired by cost-effective IMUs. A complementary filter is employed to fuse the measurements, with its parameters optimized through particle swarm optimization (PSO) to mitigate noise and delay. T o further improve estimation accuracy, residual errors in position and orientation are compensated using radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN). Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed intelligent multi-IMU kinematic estimation method, achieving root mean square errors (RMSE) of 0.00021 m, 0.00041 m, and 0.00024 rad for y, z, and θ, respectively.

Data-driven mode shape selection and model-based vibration suppression of 3-RRR parallel manipulator with flexible actuation links

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The mode shape function is difficult to determine in modeling manipulators with flexible links using the assumed mode method. In this paper, for a planar 3-RRR parallel manipulator with flexible actuation links, we provide a data-driven method to identify the mode shape of the flexible links and propose a model-based controller for the vibration suppression. By deriving the inverse kinematics of the studied mechanism in analytical form, the dynamic model is established by using the assumed mode method. To select the mode shape function, the software of multi-body system dynamics is used to simulate the dynamic behavior of the mechanism, and then the data-driven method which combines the DMD and SINDy algorithms is employed to identify the reasonable mode shape functions for the flexible links. To suppress the vibration of the flexible links, a state observer for the end-effector is constructed by a neural network, and the model-based control law is designed on this basis. In comparison with the model-free controller, the proposed controller with developed dynamic model has promising performance in terms of tracking accuracy and vibration suppression.
