5G -- how improved connectivity will improve road and driver safety Lexology
Years ago, saying that improving telecommunication networks would improve road safety would attract some very strange looks -- surely, this would mean that drivers are more distracted and less focused on the road? The situation these days, however, is quite different -- 5G and road safety might just be the unlikeliest of friends. I recently attended an IP Seminar hosted by Volvo Cars, where connectivity and data were mentioned extensively. Connectivity in vehicles is one of the fastest-growing areas of technology. The proliferation of the 5G network will enable the realisation of technologies which are sure to improve road safety and lead to improved driving.
Asia's AI agenda: AI for business
Asia is past the halfway mark. More than half of the survey sample have already deployed AI technologies within their businesses. Of the 13 markets covered by the survey, the highest level of AI penetration is in North Asia--Japan and South Korea. Indonesia and Vietnam are at the most nascent stage, with just a quarter of companies using AI. Less than a third of the "AI adopters" have a centralized strategy for AI.
The fastest-growing area of machine learning science
First, Text Analysis and Natural Language Processing make up the largest cluster in the network. Scientific papers here point to advances in machine learning through pattern recognition in language, leading to everything from faster crime analysis to more efficient assessments of clinical narratives. While much of the network is related to health and medicine, the fourth-largest cluster is focused on environmental topics; here, machine learning helps predict how climate shifts affect, say, small mammals in Alaska or plant species in Peninsular Thailand. The Artificial Neural Networks cluster, on the upper left, seems to have a foot in both worlds: a significant number of papers on neural networks deal with human health, while others deal with the health of lakes or forests.
