ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool that can engage in human-like conversations and generate coherent and contextually relevant responses to various prompts. ChatGPT is capable of understanding natural text that is input by a user and generating appropriate responses in various forms. This tool represents a major step in how humans are interacting with technology. This paper specifically focuses on how ChatGPT is revolutionizing the realm of engineering education and the relationship between technology, students, and faculty and staff. Because this tool is quickly changing and improving with the potential for even greater future capability, it is a critical time to collect pertinent data. A survey was created to measure the effects of ChatGPT on students, faculty, and staff. This survey is shared as a Texas A&M University technical report to allow other universities and entities to use this survey and measure the effects elsewhere.

These innovations, underpinned by artificial intelligence (AI), will help to provide students the ultimate choice in their courseware – including up-to-the-minute courses on high-interest/high-growth subject matter – as well as highly-innovative digital services that support them every step of the way to help maximize their success and personal objectives.
University of Florida now offers faculty and staff free AI courses - EdScoop
The University of Florida is offering artificial intelligence courses to its faculty and staff for free as part of a years-long push to establish itself as an AI leader. After an internal announcement earlier this month, the university on Monday announced that AI microcredentials, which normally each cost around $240 and take four hours to complete, are freely available. The courses were developed in a collaboration between four of UF's colleges to familiarize professionals with AI. Making the credentials available to staff for free can help give context to people in departments like enrollment, fundraising or student life to speak about the institution's AI investments, said Regina Rodriguez, a provost fellow for professional education. "Being able to know that you are knowledgeable about a specific area that university is taking on and building across every single college is so important because then you can come to the table with knowledge or at least understanding the vocabulary and not feel intimidated," she told EdScoop.
SCS Ph.D. Students Designed, Taught New Course To Make Computer Science More Welcoming, Inclusive
The Computer Science Department's new course focusing on issues of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in computer science and society got its start when a group of graduate students decided to create the training they wished they had received. And after hundreds of hours of work by 15 Ph.D. students --pilot programs, countless conversations with faculty and students, data gathering, and developing and tweaking course material -- CS-JEDI: Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is now a required part of the curriculum for incoming Ph.D. students in computer science. It's also being looked at as a model by both other departments in the School of Computer Science and universities elsewhere. The course was created and taught by Abhinav Adduri, Valerie Chen, Judeth Choi, Bailey Flanigan, Paul Göelz, Anson Kahng, Pallavi Koppol, Ananya Joshi, Tabitha Lee, Sara McAllister, Samantha Reig, Ziv Scully, Catalina Vajiac, Alex Wang and Josh Williams -- all doctoral candidates in SCS who represent nearly every department in the school. The team received Carnegie Mellon University's 2022 Graduate Student Service Award and will be honored during the Celebration of Education Award Ceremony on Thursday, April 28.

Colleges, universities, and community college systems are grappling with how best to plan, implement, and deliver artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to the maximum benefit of students, faculty, administration, and community stakeholders. As I interact with colleagues across the country, they all know it's no longer a question of "if" but "how and when and to what end." While the needs of every institution are obviously going to vary based on size, student profile, public versus private, I would like to offer up some useful observations and takeaways based on our first steps in this AI journey at the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). The taxpayer investments in the system have been consistent, considerable, and continue to generate economic growth and development across North Carolina. The best and most effective strategy won't work unless you can show early successes.

Nittany AI Challenge offers $100,000 in funding to innovators Penn State University
Penn State students, faculty and staff are invited to compete for $100,000 in funding during the Nittany AI Challenge. The challenge, sponsored by the Penn State EdTech Network, will give participating teams the opportunity to explore artificial intelligence in higher education to improve the student experience at Penn State, solve real-world problems at the University, and generate startup ideas. Brad Zdenek, innovation strategist for the Penn State EdTech Network, said the Nittany AI Challenge gives participants a chance to drive digital innovation and transform education at Penn State. "For faculty and staff, this means addressing everyday challenges -- while trying to provide the best possible experience for our students," Zdenek said. "For both graduate and undergraduate students, the challenge provides opportunities to apply knowledge in practical ways -- while receiving mentorship from individuals in leading edtech and AI companies. The ultimate goals are to test ways to improve the student experience at Penn State, instigate new research, spawn new business ideas, and open doors to jobs and internships for students."
