AI safety tools can help mitigate bias in algorithms
Where does your enterprise stand on the AI adoption curve? Take our AI survey to find out. As AI proliferates, researchers are beginning to call for technologies that might foster trust in AI-powered systems. According to a survey conducted by KPMG, across five countries -- the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Canada, and Australia -- over a third of the general public says that they're unwilling to place trust in AI systems in general. And in a report published by Pega, only 25% of consumers said they'd trust a decision made by an AI system regarding a qualification for a bank loan, for example.

Using AI and ML, this Gurugram SaaS startup is driving efficiency in the logistics industry
Managing supply chain is one of the biggest technological opportunities in the world. The potential to disrupt inefficiencies using innovations has led several startups, especially in India, to rise to the challenge. GoBOLT, a Gurugram-based tech startup, was founded in late 2015, to take on the mammoth and unorganised logistics industry in India. Founders Sumit Sharma, Parag Aggarwal, Naitik Baghlaall come from corporate backgrounds, having worked in companies like Ernst & Young, J M Financial, GSK, and Tata Motors. The idea for GoBOLT was born during Sumit's travels, while travelling to developed economies like the US and Canada, where asset utilisation in the trucking industry is very high.

UAE to Be The World's Leading Artificial Intelligence Hub
With Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology leading the global fintech conversation, the United Arab Emirates is looking forward to becoming the testing ground for the worldwide development of the technology. According to a statement by the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Omar Alama, the government is urging companies of the private sector to work together on understanding and promoting the technology's use, thus, transforming the country to become the world's leading AI hub. The statements came in the light of the launch of the government's latest initiative "Think AI", with accountancy and consulting firm Ernst & Young on Wednesday. Furthermore, Mr. Alama has pointed out that the initiative is part of a wider national plan to implement AI across all parts of society, starting with the introduction of workshops and panel talks that will bring together more than 100 experts in the field. In addition, a long-term vision for supporting AI expansion with the necessary infrastructure has been put in place.
Microsoft Monday: News App, Xbox Avatar Editor, Bonsai Acquisition, New Blockchain Initiative
"Microsoft Monday" is a weekly column that focuses on all things Microsoft. In the process of rebranding MSN News, Microsoft has launched a news app for Android and iOS called Microsoft News. The MSN brand will remain on the website, but Microsoft will not be using that brand for the Android and iOS news apps going forward. Some of the features built into the Microsoft News app includes a dark mode, integration with Android and iOS widgets, continuous reading and news alerts. And the Microsoft News service will also be used for powering the news on Microsoft Edge, the News app in Windows 10, Skype, Xbox and Outlook.com.

Recruitment App DebutRaises $6.7 Million To Rip Up Résumés
LinkedIn made it passé to send dozens of résumés to potential employers. Now Debut is finding the perfect match for graduates with personality tests and math quizzes, degrees be damned. It's a British competitor to New York-based WayUp, and investors here seem to like its targeted approach to recruitment: the startup has just raised $6.7 million (£5 million) to make its recommendation algorithms for job-seeking graduates smarter. Debut already has 60 corporate clients, including Google, Apple and Barclays, that pay it an annual subscription to parse the data flood of graduate applicants who have completed psychometric and personality tests on its app. "Most jobs applications have generic information," says founder Charlie Taylor, a former consultant at Ernst & Young who also ranked on Forbes' 30 Under 30 in European tech in 2017.

OpenTable is in San Francisco, its CTO is in Los Angeles and here's why that works
When restaurant reservation service OpenTable recruited him from dating app EHarmony, Joseph Essas received assurances that he could keep living in Los Angeles. Essas wasn't sure how, but OpenTable's then-Chief Executive Matt Roberts said, "Trust me, we're going to make this work." But after getting his bearings, he saw an easy way to persuade the company to cut his commute. Hiring software developers in San Francisco is cumbersome and expensive. In Los Angeles, it's easier -- and Essas could pull from his network of contacts developed in four prior executive roles in the region.
