Intelligent Systems and Robotics: Revolutionizing Engineering Industries

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

-- A mix of intelligent systems and robotics is making engineering industries much more efficient, precise and able to adapt. How artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and autonomous robotic technologies are changing manufacturing, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering is discussed in this paper. Based on recent findings and a sugges ted way to evaluate intelligent robotic systems in industry, we give an overview of how their use impacts productivity, safety an d operational costs. Experience and case studies confirm the benefits this area brings and the problems that have yet to be sol ved. The findings indicate that intelligent robotics involves more than a technology change; it introduces important new methods in engineering . I. INTRODUCTION Because of rapid advancements in technology, engineering industries have changed a lot.

Many believe we are living within the fourth industrial revolution, as the impact of smart technologies overtakes every area of our lives, including the engineering industry. It is marked by emerging technology breakthroughs in robotics, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, additive manufacturing/3D printing and fully autonomous vehicles. This revolution is expected to impact all disciplines, industries, and economies as connected machines begin to interact and, ultimately, even make decisions autonomously. The growth of additive manufacturing, a process that builds parts layer-by-layer from sliced CAD models to form solid objects, has the potential to become a new key technology. Electronics, engineering and medicinal electrical devices specialist Siemens has been investing in this innovative technology right from its inception, and is now driving the industrialisation and commercialisation of these processes.

Referring to an intelligent system, artificial intelligence seeks to recreate the human brain and provide a complex but efficient technology that will innovate the way technological industries work. In recent years, artificial intelligence has seen a big development, with more self-aware robots that are increasingly more capable of performing difficult tasks. With the evolution of the Internet of Things and the rise of automation, artificial intelligence will play a growing part in all processes of design and manufacturing involved in a wide range of engineering industries. The Internet of Things is allowing for an interconnected world, where devices connect everyone from everywhere. This connection allows for engineers from all over the world to collaborate and minimise errors in projects.

How Artificial Intelligence Might Transform the Engineering Industry

Artificial intelligence is all around us. Since 1956, when the field of AI was founded it's been a subject of public interest. But as great as it is, expectations for AI today are phenomenally high and designing such systems is not easy. The progress of these systems can be seen in IBM's Watson and Google DeepMind's AlphaGo program which demonstrates how increasingly powerful computing abilities are fostering AI. There are now several AI's in existence whose abilities exceed that of humans, and that number is continuously increasing.
