Porsche Reveals Everything About Its Cayenne Electric--Except for One Vital Thing
The automaker has taken the covers off its Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric, the most powerful production Porsches ever. But it won't confirm a key AI feature of its first fully electric SUV. In the first nine months of 2025, Porsche's operating profit plummeted by 99 percent compared to the same stint the year before. Profit has tanked for the auto brand with a track record of making billions. The reasons for Porsche's misfortune are no secret.

The Lotus Eletre is an electric SUV with hints of hypercar
British sports car maker Lotus is jumping on the electric bandwagon with the reveal of the Eletre, a plug-in crossover SUV with design language inspired by the automaker's Evija hypercar. The Eletre will also be the first of three new EVs that Lotus plans to roll out over the next four years, including a sports car (natch), a coupe-sedan, and another SUV. Previously called Type 132, the Eletre is the Geely-owned automaker's second electric vehicle and will feature futuristic components like camera-only side-view mirrors and a lidar sensor affixed to the front and rear of the roof. As is befitting its sports car legacy, Lotus is emphasizing the performance capabilities of its new electric SUV. The Eletre will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in less than three seconds, with Lotus claiming a spot in the "exclusive'Two Second Club'" that also includes the Tesla Model S Plaid (under very specific conditions, mind you).

Sony reveals its EV market ambitions with the Vision-S 02 electric SUV
At this year's CES, Sony has unveiled a follow up to the electric car it revealed at the same event two years ago. The new prototype is an SUV that the company is calling Vision-S 02. Sony took the sedan's EV and cloud platforms and put them in a new form factor to create the vehicle, which features a large interior that can seat seven. The electric SUV has sensors all over its body, including CMOS image and LiDAR sensors for its driver assistance system. Sony says it's conducting tests in Europe as part of its efforts to release a Level 2 driver assistance technology on public roads.

Maybach's Electric SUV, Tesla's Autopilot Shakeup, and More Car News
Engineers love the complex challenge they present. Entrepreneurs love the ambitious, long-term goals of making it easier for all people to get around safely. But right now, what are they for, really? In the weeks after a self-driving Uber hit and killed an Arizona woman, it's hard to remember. Our own Jack Stewart has something close to a solution: Autonomous developers need to figure out how to explain the point of these vehicles, in the near term, and it's not saving the world.

SF Motors reveals two electric SUVs with 300 miles of range
While much of the automotive world is focused on the New York Auto Show, a small car startup has unveiled its first-ever vehicles on the other side of the country in Santa Clara, California. SF Motors, the US arm of Chinese company Sokon, has just announced two cars -- the SF5 and the SF7 -- as part of a whole new line of electric vehicles. The SF5 is a medium size crossover SUV, and the SF7 is a full size crossover. The SF5 will be available for pre-order by the end of this year and will ship in 2019. Both vehicles boast a proprietary powertrain that promises 1,000 horsepower and the ability to accelerate to 60 miles per hour in under 3 seconds.

Jaguar's electric SUV can go almost 300 miles on a charge
The luxury automaker boasts the truck will charge from 0 - 80 percent in 85 minutes on public 50kW DC chargers, and that if you're in a hurry a half-hour charge will give you around 80 miles of range, with a total range of 480 kilometers (just over 298 miles). Speaking of charging, there's an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty limited to 70 percent battery health. The I-PACE will also work with Amazon's Alexa voice platform. You won't be able to summon the SUV with your voice, but you will be able to ask if the doors are locked or if you have enough charge to get home from work. I-PACE also uses AI to tailor the driving experience to your personal style.
