'Eyes in the sky': Army drone expert explains US strategy on innovation as global conflict looms
Garrett Butts details military drone innovation effort aimed at speeding deployment and reducing cost in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital. As the war between Israel and Iran intensifies, one Army drone expert is warning that the U.S. must stay ready, and fast. Garrett Butts is helping lead the charge by building smarter, cheaper unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in-house for the battlefield. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital on Tuesday, Butts described how his team is creating drone technology from scratch, often using parts it took nearly a year to legally obtain. "We're a transformation and contact unit," said Butts, who serves with the 1st Cavalry Division.

Ukrainians doubt potential of Trump's peace plan amid deadly Russia attacks
Kyiv, Ukraine – Thread-thin, glistening in the sun and kilometres long, optical fibres wind through the branches of trees on the frontlines of eastern Ukraine. The cords were – sometimes still are – attached to Russian drones, making them immune to radio-electronic jamming. The drones may have been shot down. Some are still operational, waylaid and replete with danger. "When somebody is passing by, they just fly up and attack," Oleh, a military officer deployed in eastern Ukraine, told Al Jazeera.

Drone pilot to plead guilty in collision that grounded aircraft fighting Palisades fire
A man who was piloting a drone that collided with a firefighting aircraft working on the Palisades fire has agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor, pay a fine and complete community service, federal prosecutors said Friday. Peter Tripp Akemann, 56, of Culver City was charged with unsafe operation of an unmanned aircraft. He could still face up to a year in federal prison, prosecutors said. The drone, which authorities say was flying in restricted airspace on Jan. 9, put a fist-sized hole in the left wing of a Super Scooper -- a massive fixed-wing plane that can drop large amounts of water onto a fire. The collision knocked the plane out of commission for about five days and destroyed the drone.

New DJI drone policy could fuel even more conspiracy theories
This week DJI, the world's leading drone manufacturer, announced a new policy removing enforcement of its "No Fly Zone" geofences in restricted areas. The sudden shift may lead to more drones hovering where they shouldn't, which could worsen a lingering national panic over flying objects in the sky. DJI, the China-based drone giant, says it will no longer enforce geofence barriers that prevent its products from flying over restricted areas like airports, wildfires, and government buildings. Though the company says these changes are intended to empower its users, they come amid a surge in drone sightings, some around critical infrastructure, that have stoked fears and fueled a growing tide of conspiracy theories. DJI's changes mean operators will have one less guardrail preventing them from flying into risky areas.

DJI will no longer block US users from flying drones in restricted areas
DJI has lifted its geofence that prevents users in the US from flying over restricted areas like nuclear power plants, airports and wildfires, the company wrote in a blog post on Monday. As of January 13th, areas previously called "restricted zones" or no-fly zones will be shown as "enhanced warning zones" that correspond to designated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) areas. DJI's Fly app will display a warning about those areas but will no longer stop users from flying inside them, the company said. In the article, DJI wrote that the "in-app alerts will notify operators flying near FAA designated controlled airspace, placing control back in the hands of the drone operators, in line with regulatory principles of the operator bearing final responsibility." It added that technologies like Remote ID [introduced after DJI implemented geofencing] gives authorities "the tools needed to enforce existing rules," DJI's global policy chief Adam Welsh told The Verge.

FAA places restrictions on drone company after Florida boy injured at holiday airshow, underwent heart surgery
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has suspended certain operations by a Texas-based drone company after a Florida boy was injured during a holiday airshow last week and had to undergo heart surgery. The FAA confirmed to Fox News Digital that it suspended the Part 107 Waiver for Sky Elements Drones. The waiver allows drone operators to fly at night, fly over people, and operate drones outside the line of sight. Thus, with this waiver suspended, Sky Elements Drones legally cannot perform its shows. It's not clear how long the pause will remain in place.

France says it foiled three plots to attack Paris Olympics
French authorities foiled three plots to attack the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and other cities that hosted this year's events, the national counterterrorism prosecutor has said. Olivier Christen said on Wednesday the plots included plans to attack "Israeli institutions or representatives of Israel in Paris" during the July 26 – August 11 Olympic competition. The prosecutor told broadcaster France Info that "the Israeli team itself was not specifically targeted." He did not give further details. Five people, including a minor, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the three foiled plots against the Summer Games, which were held against the backdrop of Israel's assault on Gaza and Russia's war in Ukraine.

Britain's 'drone superhighway' will be completed this SUMMER: 165-mile long network will let pilotless devices fly between the Midlands and the Southeast - but sceptics warn it will be 'annoying and intrusive' for people living under the flight path
While a drone superhighway might sound better suited to a science-fiction blockbuster than the Midlands, it's set to become a reality this summer. The world's first drone superhighway will open in the UK between June and early July, allowing pilotless drones to make high-speed deliveries across the country. Developed by drone software provider Altitude Angel, the 165-mile-long Skyway network will connect Coventry in the Midlands to Milton Keynes in the Southeast. However, sceptics have warned that the drone highway'inevitably poses risk' for the privacy and safety of Britons living in its flight path. Speaking to MailOnline, Chris Cole, director of campaign group Drone Wars, said: 'While the drone industry are incredibly happy about this, for people who end up living under the drones it may well end up being super annoying and super intrusive.'

Ukrainian soldier who filmed UFO 'bigger than the Empire State Building' over warzone in Donetsk tells DailyMail.com it sat deathly still against winds and was 'hotter than anything I've ever seen'
A disc-shaped object longer than the height of the Empire State Building emerged from the horizon of Ukraine's embattled Donetsk province last Friday, hovering eerily still a mile off the ground, a soldier has told DailyMail.com That soldier, a drone operator, had cautiously guided his infrared quadcopter 500-feet for a reconnaissance mission, struggling against high winds, when he suddenly spotted the flat, 1,300-foot-long UFO, which stood motionless despite those winds. In an interview from the warzone, the soldier, who is with the Ukrainian army's 406th Battalion, said he and his fellow servicemen had'never seen things like this before.' 'Initially, I thought that it was something new invented by the Russians,' he added, 'but then I understood... 'No! It might be [a] UFO.''
