Denmark bans all civilian drone flights ahead of European summit
Denmark has banned all civilian drone flights this week ahead of a European Union summit in Copenhagen, the country's transport minister said on Sunday. The ministry said the decision was made in order to simplify security work for the police, and they could not accept foreign drones creating uncertainty and disruption. Denmark is one of several European countries that have reported drone incidents in recent weeks, with unidentified drones sighted above Danish military sites as recently as Saturday. Defence ministers from 10 EU countries have agreed to create a drone wall in response to the sightings, and Nato says it has enhanced vigilance across the Baltic. In their statement announcing the ban, the transport ministry said police were on significantly increased alert ahead of this week's summit and that they needed to take care of Danes and our guests.

Paris Olympics 2024: Canada docked six points by FIFA over drone incident
FIFA deducted six points from Canada in the Paris Olympics women's football tournament and banned three coaches for one year each in a drone spying scandal. The stunning swath of punishments, announced late on Saturday, includes a 200,000-Swiss-franc ( 226,000) fine for the Canadian football federation in a case that has spiralled at the Summer Games. Two assistant coaches were caught using drones to spy on opponent New Zealand's practices before their opening game on Wednesday. Head coach Bev Priestman, who led Canada to the Olympic title in Tokyo in 2021, already was suspended by the national football federation and then removed from the Olympic tournament. She is now banned from all football by FIFA for one year.

Priestman removed as Olympic boss over drone incident
Canada women's football manager Beverly Priestman has been removed as Olympic head coach and suspended by the country's football federation as the fall out continued after a drone was flown over New Zealand's training session on Monday. Canada Soccer said it took the action because "over the past 24 hours, additional information has come to our attention regarding previous drone use against opponents, predating the Paris 2024 Olympic Games". English-born Priestman, 38, had "voluntarily" withdrew from her side's opening 2-0 victory over the Kiwis on Thursday, while Jasmine Mander, Priestman's assistant, was sent home along with "unaccredited analyst" Joseph Lombardi. On Thursday a French court said Lombardi had been handed an eight-month suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to flying a drone in an urban area without a licence. In a statement Canada Soccer chief executive Kevin Blue confirmed Priestman will be suspended for the remainder of the Games while an "independent external review" takes place.

Robot War in the South China Sea?
As technology advances relentlessly, the real prospect of robot wars is apparently almost upon us. The 2015 book Ghost Fleet, written by Peter Singer and August Cole, lays out a vision of a future war between China and the United States, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in that hypothetical military conflict is not small. Drones of various types not only carry out surveillance in this novel but also play crucial roles in communications, logistics, as well as in high-intensity combat. In one memorable vignette, two American unmanned surface vehicles "following an algorithm developed from research done on the way sand tiger sharks cooperated in their hunting" successfully prosecute a Chinese nuclear submarine. Strategists familiar with the U.S. Navy's Sea Hunter program know that this ambition is not especially far-fetched. Yet, what if that book understates China's ambitions to apply AI to the future battlefield, and to undersea warfare, in particular?
