Microsoft and OpenAI extend partnership - The Official Microsoft Blog

#artificialintelligence

Today, we are announcing the third phase of our long-term partnership with OpenAI through a multiyear, multibillion dollar investment to accelerate AI breakthroughs to ensure these benefits are broadly shared with the world. This agreement follows our previous investments in 2019 and 2021. It extends our ongoing collaboration across AI supercomputing and research and enables each of us to independently commercialize the resulting advanced AI technologies. "We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform," said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. "In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications."

Were you unable to attend Transform 2022? Check out all of the summit sessions in our on-demand library now! When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, there is a growing gap between the haves and the have-nots. According to IBM, the global AI adoption rate went up by 4 percentage points in 2022, reaching nearly 35%. However, the study also found that the gap in AI adoption between larger and smaller companies also grew significantly in the past year.

BLOOM: Inside the unconventional new mission to democratize AI - Channel969

However Meta's mannequin is offered solely upon request, and it has a license that limits its use to analysis functions. Hugging Face goes a step additional. The conferences detailing its work over the previous yr are recorded and uploaded on-line, and anybody can obtain the mannequin freed from cost and use it for analysis or to construct industrial purposes. An enormous focus for BigScience was to embed moral concerns into the mannequin from its inception, as a substitute of treating them as an afterthought. LLMs are skilled on tons of knowledge collected by scraping the web.

Inside a radical new project to democratize AI

MIT Technology Review

Unlike other, more famous large language models such as OpenAI's GPT-3 and Google's LaMDA, BLOOM (which stands for BigScience Large Open-science Open-access Multilingual Language Model) is designed to be as transparent as possible, with researchers sharing details about the data it was trained on, the challenges in its development, and the way they evaluated its performance. OpenAI and Google have not shared their code or made their models available to the public, and external researchers have very little understanding of how these models are trained. BLOOM was created over the last year by over 1,000 volunteer researchers in a project called BigScience, which was coordinated by AI startup Hugging Face using funding from the French government. It officially launched on July 12. The researchers hope developing an open-access LLM that performs as well as other leading models will lead to long-lasting changes in the culture of AI development and help democratize access to cutting-edge AI technology for researchers around the world.

ThirdAI raises $6M to democratize AI to any hardware – TechCrunch

#artificialintelligence

Houston-based ThirdAI, a company building tools to speed up deep learning technology without the need for specialized hardware like graphics processing units, brought in $6 million in seed funding. Neotribe Ventures, Cervin Ventures and Firebolt Ventures co-led the investment, which will be used to hire additional employees and invest in computing resources, Anshumali Shrivastava, Third AI co-founder and CEO, told TechCrunch. Shrivastava, who has a mathematics background, was always interested in artificial intelligence and machine learning, especially rethinking how AI could be developed in a more efficient manner. It was when he was at Rice University that he looked into how to make that work for deep learning. He started ThirdAI in April with some Rice graduate students. ThirdAI's technology is designed to be "a smarter approach to deep learning," using its algorithm and software innovations to make general-purpose central processing units (CPU) faster than graphics processing units for training large neural networks, Shrivastava said.

H&M wants to democratize AI with reusable components

In AI implementation, organizations grapple with scaling issues. Advancing investments from the pilot stage into business critical processes is challenging, due to constraints in accessing talent and organizational culture pitfalls. But given the threats the retail industry faces -- consumers pulling back on spending and inventory challenges -- digital is imperative. H&M "must act quickly to improve its online proposition globally" as it adjusts to shifting shopping habits everywhere, analyst firm GlobalData said in a research note. This year, H&M already planned to open fewer stores as it expanded digital operations globally.

Democratize AI: Exploring Future of Technology

#artificialintelligence

When individuals talk about artificial intelligence (AI), the first organizations that ring a bell are typically the FAANGs -- Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google. However, this is a long way from a complete rundown. Anybody can deploy AI today, and the FAANGs have no exceptional bit of leeway. The large technology companies accomplished early victories with artificial intelligence. Some even manufactured their own specific hardware, machine learning frameworks, and research and development centers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is like a superhighway, it's moving fast, evolving, and growing quickly. Like most things in life, data scientists are not born with AI and Machine Learning (ML) knowledge. At H2O.ai, we are on a mission to democratize AI. To help every company become an AI company. Companies are also on an AI transformation journey.
