Imagining a future where smart glasses allow 'AI slop' to be avoided

New Scientist

Imagining a future where smart glasses allow'AI slop' to be avoided "Wearing the unsmart glasses created an entirely un-augmented reality " By the mid-2020s, the world was becoming swamped with "AI slop". Whether images, video, music, emails, ads, speeches or TV shows, many people's interactions were with asinine content generated by artificial intelligence. Sometimes the experience was fun and relatively harmless, but often it was tedious and brain-sapping . At worst, it could be dangerously misleading . Even engagements with other people became suspect - who knew if the person on the phone was real or not?

APIs or custom AI? Everything businesses need to know before taking the leap

#artificialintelligence

Machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) AI solutions which'read' and analyze pieces of text, provide another interesting use-case, allowing firms to boost their knowledge management abilities. For instance, data analysis could become a lot easier with introduction of AI assistant solutions (think Alexa or Siri), which can be used to find key figures in large data sets, simply by inputting a command by voice or text. As such, the future of AI in the world of business looks rather like the present, as AI's competency to automate tasks increases in efficacy.

Beatles documentary Get Back used custom AI to strip unwanted sound

New Scientist

The Beatles' rooftop performance from 1969 in Get Back Get Back, Peter Jackson's documentary about the making of the Beatles' album Let It Be and final public performance on the rooftop of their Savile Row office, would have been impossible without custom-made artificial intelligence, claim sound engineers who worked on the film. Sixty hours of film were recorded during the short period in 1969 but most of the audio was captured by a microphone that picked up the musicians' instruments in a noisy jumble rather than a carefully crafted mix.

Custom AI can beat most human foes at FreeCiv -- and that's not even its day job

#artificialintelligence

Beating the AI opponents in a strategy game is the first step any gamer takes before heading online where the real challenge is. Whether they cheat or not, most game AIs are beatable, often with simple, repeatable strategies once you find their weak points. Named HIRO (Human Intelligence Robotically Optimized), the algorithm can beat almost all players -- and that's not even its main job. Arago is an IT automation firm, which develops smart AIs that can streamline businesses and automate many of their functions. HIRO is one such AI, and while it does an excellent job of improving workflows at a number of corporations, it's the way it's trained that is most fascinating. It plays -- very well at that -- the freely available civilization-building game called Freeciv.
