Hey everyone: It's time to switch to Windows 11

PCWorld

After three years, it's finally time to upgrade to Windows 11. With Windows 11, Microsoft shifted into productivity mode, and to this day Windows 11 still feels like the operating system for work, while Windows 10 still feels lively and fun. But Windows 11 not only is where entertaining new features are landing, but also includes new AI capabilities that may improve your lives. It's time to embrace the change. Last year, I was split: I wrote five reasons to switch to Windows 11, and five more to remain on Windows 10.

Windows 10 Spring Creators Update: The best hidden features

PCWorld

Microsoft's next Windows 10 upgrade, code-named Redstone 4 and informally known as the Spring Creators Update, improves Windows in numerous ways. But Microsoft has also added innumerable under-the-hood adjustments. That's why this roundup exists: to underscore smaller additions you might miss, or explain subtle changes in how Windows 10 works. Unlike previous lists we've compiled, though, some of these hidden features seem tentative, with more work clearly needed. Fortunately, Microsoft seems inclined to keep developing Windows 10, with no major replacement on the radar.

Windows 10 Spring Creators Update: everything you need to know

The Guardian

The next version of Windows 10 looks set to shake things up in the way people switch between devices, and now, reportedly, has a name: Spring Creators Update. With Windows 10 being the "final" version of Windows, updates like this are essentially the new versions, with the recent Creators Update, and then the Fall (autumn) Creators Update each bringing big new features and revisions. So what does the next version of Windows 10 have in store? Known in testing as "Redstone 4", the next version of Windows 10 will probably be called Spring Creators Update, a name which has appeared briefly in blogposts and tools, but recently turned up in another tool that more or less cements it as the name. As the name might imply, "spring" is the target for the next version of Windows.

Killing passwords in Windows 10 S is one of 7 big changes in Windows 10 Build 17093

PCWorld

Microsoft sees a future without passwords in Windows 10 Insider Build 17093, at least for Windows 10 S users. Microsoft has quietly worked to downplay passwords via PIN codes, fingerprint sensors, and even facial recognition. But actually killing them entirely within Windows 10 S is one of the key changes coming with what may be called the Spring Creators Update, code-named'Redstone 4,' expected to launch in late March or early April. The build, which launched Wednesday, also includes new multi-GPU graphics settings, improved eye tracking, quicker connections using Bluetooth, and clutter-free printing, among others. Why this matters: We thought Microsoft was done with Redstone 4 features when the last build hit a couple of weeks ago.

Windows 10 Fall Creators update: Microsoft announces brand new design

The Independent - Tech

Microsoft has officially announced the next major update to Windows 10, just weeks after the Creators Update started rolling out. The Fall Creators Update will arrive later this year, most likely in September. It's expected to have a more immediate impact on day-to-day users than the Creators Update, which was released in April and mainly focused on improving security. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. Microsoft's Story Remix turns photos and video into shareable clips

Engadget

With the Fall Creators Update coming in September, Microsoft has unveiled a new app that can transform you photos and videos into a cinematic spectacle, complete with CG effects, titles and a soundtrack. Called Story Remix, it's a Universal Windows App that uses deep learning and Microsoft's Graph, letting you pull media in from colleagues, friends and others. It's a powerful, yet simple app that uses image analysis and AI to to clip discovery, effects integration, and even the entire edit, complete with music. It's like a fancier, smarter version of Apple Clips, Google's Photo Assistant or the Magisto app (remember that?), but geared towards Windows 10 content. As a nod to the latest Creators Update, it can also pull in 3D objects from Paint 3D and other programs, or let you draw on your videos and photos using Window Ink.

Windows 10 Creators Update: Microsoft warns users of 'issues'

The Independent - Tech

Microsoft has advised Windows 10 users against downloading the Creators Update before their computers become eligible for it. The company released the new software two weeks ago, but has decided to roll it out to users in stages, partly because it doesn't want to overwhelm its servers. However, that's not the reason behind the unexpected warning issued this week. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update review: The future is increasingly uncertain

PCWorld

Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update rides the coattails of the desktop OS, heavily leaning on improvements in Cortana and Edge to nudge Microsoft's nearly comatose mobile platform further ahead. As the free upgrade rolls out Tuesday, our review of the Creators Update can't help but conclude that it's even less of an improvement than the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update. We can tell you that Windows' new ability to buy and read ebooks within Edge represents its most potent addition. You can turn off a screen while using Continuum, a tweak that better approximates the PC experience. Cortana's slightly smarter, as she is on the desktop. You can also pause updates, view the Glance screen while charging and enjoy a limited but refreshingly simple 3D content creation app, 3D Builder.

4 powerful productivity features in the Windows 10 Creators Update

PCWorld

Despite the artistic implications of its name, the Windows 10 Creators Update, which started rolling out April 11, brings with it several nuts-and-bolts productivity enhancements. Here's an overview of four that can make a big impact on your day-to-day routine. We'll likely look at each of these more in-depth in the weeks to come. Cortana is one of the most useful productivity features of Windows 10, thanks largely to its ability to provide contextual reminders around meetings, deadlines, and other important events. Surprisingly, though, it hasn't allowed you to set recurring reminders.
