An Overview: Human in the loop is an approach. The human-in-the-loop approach combines the best of human intelligence with the best of machine intelligence. Make note of the word -- 'best' here. Machines are great at making smart decisions from vast datasets, whereas people are much better at making decisions with less information. Humans are great at innovating and machines are great at automating as they both are meant to do. For example, people are great at looking at a complex image and picking out discrete entities: "this is a car" or "that's a cat but you can only see its tail."

AI is moving from analysis AI, to AI doing creativity activities (such as art), to intuitive AI. Every company is becoming a software company. An example is car companies. Vehicles are transforming from a piece of hardware to an app on wheels (updates every 1–2 weeks). Ask someone with a Tesla if you don't believe me.
