BioImageLoader: Easy Handling of Bioimage Datasets for Machine Learning
Lim, Seongbin, Zhang, Xingjian, Beaurepaire, Emmanuel, Chessel, Anatole
BioImageLoader (BIL) is a python library that handles bioimage datasets for machine learning applications, easing simple workflows and enabling complex ones. BIL attempts to wrap the numerous and varied bioimages datasets in unified interfaces, to easily concatenate, perform image augmentation, and batch-load them. By acting at a per experimental dataset level, it enables both a high level of customization and a comparison across experiments. Here we present the library and show some application it enables, including retraining published deep learning architectures and evaluating their versatility in a leave-one-dataset-out fashion.
New French Push for AI Research
This new Chair, funded by Google France, aims to support the training of a new generation of talents in artificial intelligence in terms of training, research, and international outreach. The new Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Visual Computing Master's program of École Polytechnique, offered in partnership with Inria, ENSTA ParisTech, and Télécom ParisTech, will benefit from support as it welcomes its first class in September 2018. Google France will offer students opportunities in its research internship programs. AI awareness seminars in ethics and law, as well as roundtables and workshops, will also be conducted to allow students to succeed in the professional world and in scientific research in the field of AI. An invitation program for world-renowned professors will also be funded by the Chair to support these research activities and to enrich the academic offer of the Artificial Intelligence and the Advanced Visual Computing Master's program.
Fujitsu to establish a Center of Excellence in École Polytechnique
The creation of a CoE dedicated to AI on École Polytechnique campus aims at bringing new technologies and services while fostering scientific cooperation on major research fields, in particular with École Polytechnique laboratories. Research will especially focus on machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing. Going forward, leveraging the CoE's activities, Fujitsu will place particular focus on predictive analytics and other data analysis technologies that lead to solutions to customer management issues, and will further support the digital transformation of French businesses and society. In addition, the CoE will offer Fujitsu's IoT, digital marketing, security and other digital solutions to corporate customers, particularly in the retail and manufacturing fields. Contributing towards development of a pool of talents The CoE will provide opportunities to participate in actual development projects for startups housed at the Drahi X-Novation Center, where the CoE is located.
