The Indian woman who stood up to moral policing - and won a pageant
Muskan Sharma stood up to men who tried to bully her over her clothes - and went on to win hearts and a beauty pageant. The 23-year-old, who was crowned Miss Rishikesh 2025 last week in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, told the BBC that even though it was a small local pageant, it made me feel like Miss Universe. Sharma's win has made headlines in India as it came after a viral video that showed her spiritedly arguing with a man who barged into their rehearsals just a day before the 4 October contest. Sharma, who wanted to be a model and participate in a pageant since I was in school, said the intruders came in just as they broke for lunch. We were sitting around, chilling, having a laugh when they walked in, she said.
Nvidia makes a clean sweep of MLPerf predictions benchmark for artificial intelligence
Graphics chip giant Nvidia mopped up the floor with its competition in a benchmark set of tests released Wednesday afternoon, demonstrating better performance on a host of artificial intelligence tasks. The benchmark, called MLPerf, announced by the MLPerf organization, an industry consortium that administers the tests, showed Nvidia getting better speed on a variety of tasks that use neural networks, from categorizing images to recommending which products a person might like. Predictions are the part of AI where a trained neural network produces output on real data, as opposed to the training phase when the neural network system is first being refined. Benchmark results on training tasks were announced by MLPerf back in July. Many of the scores on the test results pertain to Nvidia's T4 chip that has been in the market for some time, but even more impressive results were reported for its A100 chips unveiled in May.
AI pilot beats human in clean sweep of virtual F-16 dogfights, human fails to register a single hit
Fox News Flash top headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. An AI pilot defeated a human pilot in a clean sweep of virtual reality dogfights, with experts hailing the victory as a significant moment for artificial intelligence, sources reported. The artificial intelligence algorithm, developed by Heron Systems and flying under the call sign "Falco," beat a human F-16 pilot in simulated dogfights 5-0 in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)'s AlphaDogfight Trials on Aug. 20, Airforce Mag reported. DARPA pitted several different AI programs against each other before letting the winner face off against the human pilot, call sign "Banger."
The AI Podcast: Clean Sweep: Tokyo Robotics Company Builds Tidying Robots - Ep. 101 on Apple Podcasts
Though creating an autonomous robot that can tidy a room seems like enough of an achievement, Tokyo-based Preferred Networks goes one step further. By integrating natural language processing (NLP) into their technology, their robots respond to commands and adjust their actions. Jun Hatori, a software engineer at Preferred Networks, stopped to talk with AI Podcast host Noah Kravitz about the company's latest developments.
iLife V8s Review: Far From a Clean Sweep
Designing a budget robot vacuum is an unenviable task. Most robot vacuums already operate within a very limited set of engineering constraints. They all have to be about the same size and make below a certain level of noise. The batteries have to operate for a certain length of time. You can buy iRobot's entry-level vacuum for $299, and you can find Neato's for a mere $200. With the iLife V8s, the most obvious addition is a mopping function.
